Post Draft advice-Fantasy Football

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I like CJ2K and McFadden about the same at 10. Not sure if you have 10 or 12 teams, but even if it's 12 you'd have a shot at Stafford in the 2nd round.

Sorry bout the lack of info its a standard 10 team league , done a couple of mock drafts and im now leaning with AP hoping he comes back healthy, I know i would have to reach for him because no way he is there at pick 29 .

You need to start talking trades as soon as somebody's running back goes down with an injury, Henry. Your wide receivers are the Powerball special: a few lottery tickets that may or may not pan out. You need a second defense as well, because the Lions are only going to help you out half the games of the season.

Just traded CJ2K for Julio Jones and Jamaal Charles. Wasn't that big on CJ to begin with (he just happened to fall to me in the 2nd round and I knew he'd have value). Now my roster looks like...

QB: Philip Rivers
RB: LeSean McCoy
RB: Jamaal Charles
RB: Steven Jackson
WR: Julio Jones
WR: Hakeem Nicks
WR: Mike Wallace
TE: Aaron Hernandez

Bench:
Ryan Mathews
Eric Decker
Miles Austin
Michael Bush
Toby Gerhart

Was tempted to start a new thread instead of potentially hijacking this one, but I need some pre-draft advice. I was just invited to join a league for the first time. I'm going to give it a go, but have no idea where to start. Would anybody be willing to do help me out with some advice for a complete novice? The league is going to be run through the Yahoo Sports system and is a head-to-head format, 10 team league. I don't even know enough to know what other info I may need to provide. I have one week until the draft to come up with a strategy. What positions in what rounds? Good resources for coming up with a gameplan for the draft? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: I just learned that I'm picking 4th.

Honestly if its your first time you will probably feel a bit overwhelmed when you get into the draft and its best to have a really simple plan. For the first 8-10 rounds or so, go with one of the top 5 ranked players that are left, just be sure they aren't injured. Try to grab a QB early as it will make your life easier your first time. Once you get to the point where you don't recognize anyone's name, pick the top ranked remaining defense and then have a list of "sleepers" picked by some expert on espn, yahoo, etc. and fill out the end of your roster with them, regardless of where they are ranked. The default rankings are very helpful for new players up till about rank 100, then they become kinda useless.

Don't expect to win your first year as a lot of fantasy football involves playing the waiver wire and learning what kind of players suit your scoring system, and you will probably need a year of experience for that kind of stuff. For example when i say "the danger of a redskins RB", fantasy vets all know exactly what i am talking about and will have advantages like that over you this year. I've done quite well these past couple years but my first year i think i was dead last.

To sum up: trust the rankings for the first 100 spots, just avoid injuries. Then grab a defense, and go through a printed list of sleepers for your last 5 or so picks. Don't forget to pick a kicker in the last or second to last round.

Thanks for the input. Is there any rationale as to whether I should value QB/WR/RB more? Picking at #4, I assume there will be a good selection of any position available. I'm sure it depends on the scoring parameters for the league to some extent. I guess what I'm thinking is hoping for Arian Foster or Aaron Rodgers to be available. I know it's unlikely, but if they were both to be available at 4, is there a strong reason to take on over the other?

There's a 0% chance that both will be there at 4, in most leagues Arian goes 1st. As for which to position to value more, it really does depend on scoring. In most standard scoring leagues RBs tend to have the most value. After that I'd put QB then WR. The top 4 guys taken in your draft will likely be some combination of Arian Foster, LeSean McCoy, Ray Rice, and Aaron Rodgers. Get any one of those 4 and it's a good pick.

In my league the QB scoring tends to be higher than in most leagues, so grabbing a dominant QB is critical. I got lucky that I grabbed Stafford last year or I likely wouldn't have made the playoffs even though the rest of my roster was pretty dominant. I lost a game to a guy who had a roster completely outmatched by mine, but he still won because he had Aaron Rodgers putting up retarded numbers. Point is, if you can find your scoring information we can help you out more. In my league, taking Aaron Rodgers at number 1 overall makes more sense than in most standard scoring leagues (though it's still not a bad choice).

Also, if you get a chance to grab Gronkowski or Graham earlier than most TEs would go, I'd probably take it. Obviously this depends on who's there so use your best judgement. Most people will likely be making a run on decent RBs and WRs, but there are a lot of decent RBs and WRs out there. There's only 2 truly dominant TEs. I had Gronk last year and he single handedly got me some wins. Not something too common from the TE spot.

Off topic but my commissioner recently informed me that he will essentially veto any trade that I make because of my history of trade raping people. Like last year when I gave up Chris Johnson's corpse for MJD and Antonio Gates.

Thanks, Doc. I pretty much assumed both of those guys would be gone by 4... I think at least one of the 3 picking ahead of me is as much a newbie as I am, so you never know. :D I imagine I'll take whichever of those 4 are left to start with and then build from there.

Well your league scoring looks fairly standard, RBs will likely have the most value for you. That said, Aaron Rodgers would still be a great pick at 4. If he's not there, you'll have your pick of a top RB.

I prefer waiting for a QB and go back heavy. Since I've been using this strategy (09), I've made the playoffs. Last night we had our league draft. I walked out happy with Foster, Run DMC, Trent, Miles, Rivers, V-Jax, Malcolm Floyd, Hernandez, and Bears D. 12 Team Draft.

NFL Fantasy is basically 80% luck. Injuries factor in of course. I think DMC can get top 5 RB numbers if hes healthy. I also think Rivers and Cutler are guy's to have this year if u like taking QB's late.

RB's to have are of course, Foster, CJ2k, Rice, DMC, Forte. I'd take Forte over AP, Mojo Jojo, Turner, and Charles. Those 4 are questionable. Therefore, Forte is a safe pick.

I don't think Forte has as much value as in the past unless you're in a PPR league. Michael Bush will vulture a lot of his TDs and be a good pick if he slips.

We just had our draft in a 12 team PPR league. QB/RB/RB/WR/WR/WR/TE/FLEX/DST/K
I had the 11th pick.

11- Drew Brees
14- Chris Johnson
35- Adrian Peterson
38- A.J. Green
59- Dwayne Bowe
62- Percy Harvin
83- Ben Tate
86- Peyton Hillis
107- Nate Washington
110- Josh Freeman
131- Jared Cook
134- Greg Little
155- Kendall Wright
158- Jermaine Gresham
179- Raiders DST - (Stream)
182- Jason Hanson- K

Do ok?

Looks solid. I'm a fan in particular of your Peterson, Green, and Harvin picks

Not sold on AP and Charles this year. I saw a stat, i dont know if it's accurate, but a RB who came off a torn ACL couldn't even rush for 800 yards the following season.

Good luck, I hope AP and Charles can achieve 1000 yards. I like those guys alot, I snuck Charles late in the 4th round in his breakout year 2 years ago.

My whole thing is that they 'payed da man'. Money gets the carries, goaline carries, etc. He's also one of the best RB's to do a screen play with. He kills them. Bush is a monster, but Forte is a true 3 down back.
