Everyone go give @tristan+kyrie=$ a like in the Baker Mayfield thread for this post, but a passage in the article pertaining to the coaching search is what struck me most:

Jimmy Haslam ain't going anywhere and he's still the biggest problem plaguing this organization.
Yeah we're screwed for the foreseeable future.

I believe that business structure was originally created because the Haslam family wanted to micro-manage. They saw the Browns as a fun new toy Christmas morning. They even pushed for his personal jester of choice to entertain him - Johnny Manziel.

Those days are gone, IMO. He has been checked by the reality that winning in the NFL isn't a given. Years of failure landed him in a position of wanting to step back and trust somebody who is good at running an NFL operation. If anything, the mistake was hiring too many chefs for just one soup. He wasn't playing with the franchise, he was desperate for a success.

This coaching choice is a litmus test. Dorsey has stepped forward more than anyone he has hired in the past as a guy with the right answers. I'm not ready to assume the Haslam family is going to fuck this up because in the past he had reasons not to hand over full authority. Now he does.

One can only hope.

Dorsey is extremely qualified and has a strong staff around him and can even leverage hall of famer Ron wolf in this search.. he was going to be judged by the QB selection and head coach selection and he appears to have the QB, let’s hope he can Hire a great coach

I’m of the opinion that it’s at least possible Dorsey may have only accepted the job under the condition he would have full autonomy over football operations. He was a reputable guy whom could have landed a great opportunity elsewhere at some point.

Lots of faith in Dorsey for a guy who brought in a wounded Todd Haley and put total faith in Hue Jackson.

But I’ll let him have one chance at it.

Thought the consensus from most reports was that Haslam wanted Hue back, Hue was responsible for picking his coordinator, and hiring a coordinator was a condition of Hue staying on as coach?

Yeah, this contradicts every report of what actually happened.

Arians is number one candidate.

Do I think it happens? no. I think Dorsey wants to have a Andy Reid/Green Bay like offense and Arians background doesn't match that.

However...He is probably track record wise? One of the best "mentor" coaches I've seen for QB's in the NFL.

I keep remembering the 2002 season and how a guy he specifically liked in Kelly Holcomb...wound up helping us out quite a bit.

My fear/criticism...IIRC....he didn't really emphasize the offensive line at Pittsburgh. I recall Yinzers bitching him out over that.

We are talking about a guy who has never hired a coach. Andy Reid was already there. He’s a good talent evaluator with players because he’s a scout at heart. What about coaches? I’m not sure that’s the same in evaluations.

He cannot do any worse though honestly than anyone else we have had choosing head coaches, if anything his presence in Cleveland may allow us to get a head coach that isn't an unproven rookie like we have been hiring.

Shoot I think most of us on this board could have been better than who we have had picking the coaches.
