Preseason Game 1 | Hawks @ Cavs

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I didn't see the game but the box score looks good.

How did the newly liberated Love look? His stats looked very impressive.

Little Z played well too.

Fucking Kay Felder. Who told him to throw up 12 shots?

The starting five is going to WRECK teams.

HOT TAKES

Zizic may have a bigger role than we all imagined a couple weeks ago. His skillset is one we haven't had on this team in awhile and it wouldn't shock me at all to see him get some consistent minutes this year, especially against teams with bigger front courts.

Rose looks really good. Like close to vintage Rose at times.

Wade can still play at a high level. The bball IQ is obvious. Not the same explosive player but very valuable.

Crowder is a breath of fresh air. A guy who cares about defense ??

RJ and Calderon did nothing to really make me feel one of them should be kept. Calderon can make nice passes on offense but his defense is horrible. RJ is more of a two way player but he's a JAG from a basketball standpoint.

Felder should be off the team tonight.

Shump might actually be my least favorite Cav in 10 years. I know the injury isn't his fault... but he just isn't a smart player. Even when things are going well, he seems to get injured. I'd love to move him but he's gotta practically untradeable at this point.

Frye is basically James Jones at this point.

Cedi had a couple flashes.

Overall, it was reassuring to watch this group and know LeBron and IT weren't playing. Great depth.

I only caught 3 qtrs and I felt relatively the same.

Frye typically takes awhile to work into game shape. Im not concerned there.

I think RJ is that James Jones player. I personally think his personality and perspective is much needed amongst this team. You cant let that walk.

Shump to me is the guy that needs to go. Folder & Taveras are obvious to be waived. Whether or not one takes the two offer is up to them.

Calderon will not hurt you with bone headed plays in his very limited minutes. Shump can. Calderon creates offense for others while running plays. Shump cannot. Calderon will not hurt you with a dumb play or a bad shot, Shump has a high probability of doing so. We have to find a way to move him.

Zizic will be brought along slowly, I expect Frye to eat minutes to start as the "3rd traditional big". Little Z will step in around Xmas IMO.

Cedi may take a little more tuning, but the kid was clearly pressing. I like the flashes I saw, but we as a fanbase need to temper expectations. He can be a solid contributor, but he's a young kid who is new to the lifestyle and new to the country. His learning curve is much steeper than a regular rook.

That dubious honor goes to Luke Harangody for me.

I really think it would benefit the Cavs later in the year if Lue can intigrate Cedi and Zizic into the team like Pop does with some of the guys in San Antone

Pop has done this a few times but the vast majority of his rookies since 2010(Danny Green, J Simmons, Kyle Anderson, Dejounte Murray, Patty Mills, Davis Bertans, Corey Joseph) have played in just between 20-40 games their rookie seasons racking up a lot of DNP-CD's and time spent in the G-League.

My hottish takes

We looked good without Lebron the first quarter, I was impressed.

Zizic looked really good, all the people praising him are not wrong, but he wont contribute much this year, too deep.

Cedi looked ok, we will see, he has some growing.

Rose is really, fast, really fast. Not sure we should start IT when he comes back.

Love looked great in the offense as the center

Frye looked like he aged 4 years over the summer.

Felder is not good at basketball, maybe he can play receiver?

Perkins is obviously friends with Lebron, really did not belong

Korver forgot how to shoot, but I am sure it will come back

Green will be very valuable if he doent make bone head plays, I counted 2, I can live with that

and finally Crowder fits like a glove, he is going to be huge.

Where can I find replay?

Man i loved the motion offense they ran in the first, with the majority of the roster that will play being able to play in this motion should make it hard to guard lebron and load upon him.
Loved it that they arent standing on the perimeter and watching, players are cutting and screening keeping all defenders engaged.

Love looked like he is ready to be an isolation scorer on that left block extended, using fakes and drives. Lue has a number of plays already to generate him open threes of motion which he shoots really well.

The starters seem to have understood the threes or layups identity they need to be successful hopefully that continues

Seriously, what's Lue doing in camp? players have no idea what they are doing on the floor.

Zizic looked exhausted and slow, but showed real skills and awareness.

I see potential with Cedi, liked what I saw.

Felder needs to be cut right now.

Jae Crowder changes everything on defense, his switch defense is pretty pretty good and he brings Lebron like intensity on that end that rubs on the other players positively.

Rose looks significantly better than Kyrie on defense. Even if he doesn't completely stays with the pnr ball handler after a pick, he still shadows him and givess the big man a chance to block penetration and cover his man at the same time.
Kyrie completely left his ditched too many times after a pick and that just fucked up our defense.

That 7 minute stretch in the 1st quarter showed some very very good defense.

Calderon has no place on this team. He can not lead the 2nd unit because he can't create offense and if he playswith other ballhandlers and creators such as Lebron, Wade or Rose, I can think of much better players to replace him in that role.

Having no roll player on the starting liNeup makes the team very one dimensional and makes them prone to take too many 3's.

The biggest takeaway I got from this game was Rose. I know he only had 7 but seeing how fast and explosive he is has got me over here...

the only important takes from this preseason game was that Love was truly played in the elbow for the first time ever and the team was focused on passing the ball.

Serious question.. where is Sir'Dom pointer? Am i the only one that thinks he could be our Tony Allen eventually?

I find it interesting I keep hearing people say we have depth now. Last time I checked Rose and Wade are two of the most injury prone players in the NBA- you just CANNOT bank on them these days. The new Euro guys have proven nothing. Frye and RJ have obviously all their best years behind them. Shump is a non factor, he gets injured in pre-season games. JR is hit or miss. IT is injured, and how do we know that he will ever be the same again-- or that he won't go out there one game and re-injure his hip? Tristan can't hack it against our most important opponent and has been benched. Korver has proven he can't hit the big shot. Jeff Green has NEVER lived up to his potential, why people think he all the sudden will is humorous at best.

Leave out LBJ, Love, and Crowder, and this team is kind of a mess. I believe we need one more big move on the trade block. Someone we can trust to handle the ball when Lebron isn't, that won't break his knees or hip jogging down the court.

Sorry for being realistic. *Awaits the disagrees :chuckle:*
