Preseason Game 1 | Hawks @ Cavs

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I find it interesting I keep hearing people say we have depth now. Last time I checked Rose and Wade are two of the most injury prone players in the NBA- you just CANNOT bank on them these days. The new Euro guys have proven nothing. Frye and RJ have obviously all their best years behind them. Shump is a non factor, he gets injured in pre-season games. JR is hit or miss. IT is injured, and how do we know that he will ever be the same again-- or that he won't go out there one game and re-injure his hip? Tristan can't hack it against our most important opponent and has been benched. Korver has proven he can't hit the big shot. Jeff Green has NEVER lived up to his potential, why people think he all the sudden will is humorous at best.

Leave out LBJ, Love, and Crowder, and this team is kind of a mess. I believe we need one more big move on the trade block. Someone we can trust to handle the ball when Lebron isn't, that won't break his knees or hip jogging down the court.

Sorry for being realistic. *Awaits the disagrees :chuckle:*

You are not being realistic, you are being a pessimist.

There is no reason to think Wade or Rose are going to get injured if we manage their minutes properly.. yes, they might sit out a few games here and there if needed, but who cares?

Cavs are very deep, but Ty needs to put the right lineups on the floor.

Our bench production was abysmal, even when Kyrie/Love/LBJ shared the floor with the 2nd unit. I believe that even without one of James/Love our bench will be able to hold leads or even extend them..
Once IT comes back, our 2nd lineup whether you want to include either Love/Lebron in it is going to be filthy.

I'll say it, I worry about Kevin Love at the 5.

We weren't a factor whatsoever on the offensive glass, and the Hawks could get whatever they wanted in the paint until Tristan checked in.

It's a fun idea having Love at center, but it's flawed. That was my lone overreaction from last night. Hopefully it's mitigated by LeBron.

You are right. Cavs are not going to be a factor on the offensive glass, but playing 5 out enables us to be much better against transition offense and maybe it proves to be better against a team like the Warriors.

Playing Love at C however, enables the Cavs be a much better transition team. Having 4 athletic guys that are able to leak out right after a miss waiting to receive a pass from the best outlet passer in the league to me is a much better attribute in todays game.
I once thought Love was the reason we were such a bad transition team, but I believe Tristan was the one that really hurt us in transition.. He is a bad passer, can't handle the ball, has no range so him running the floor as a trailer holds no value compared to Love who is able to be a threat as a trailer on transition.

Let's face it, Love tried to pad his rebounding stats by cheating off his man because he was guarding mostly stretch 4's and he usually had bad position for the rebound. Now, I expect to see him in a much better position to contest and rebound the ball and that by itself should improve the defense.

Biggest problem imo is our screening game with both Love and Crowder on the floor as our front court players. Love is stil lsoft setting picks and it infuriates me still.

We will see, but he was active early on D and the HAwks never even attempted to crash the boards.. Then Calderon checked in and it was a total chaos.

Dude... Do you even remember the last time either of those players played a full uninjured season? Sorry, that is not pessimism that is indeed realism. Expecting them to all of the sudden remain healthy when they come to this team is fantasy.

Battling homers here gets tiring.

My impressions were that calderon and felder were just horrible. Calderon can play offense but is non-existent on defense, they just blow by him. I was impressed with zizic and cedi. Also our starters are awesome i can't wait for the season to start! I think the cavs should focus on playing wade, d-rose, LBJ, Love, crowder, TT, Cedi, Zizic, IT, JR and Green. But imo caldron, felton and shumpert shouldn't be playing at all and occasionally play with Korver, RJ and frye. Focus on people that play or are willing to play defense and develop cedi and zizic. Im sure if you develop them throughout the season they can contribute more than some of the other players.

I'm a homer? I'm probably one of the last members on this site that you can say that to.

There is a difference between a season ending injury and a minor injury or just rest.

Maybe i'm missing something, but Wade has played almost the same amount of games the last 3 seasons as he played when he was in his prime. He hasn't had any season ending injury and his injuries aare mostly due to wear and tear and with proper minute management he should be fine.

Rose is a tad different because he did have that miniscus injury a year ago to close the season after playing 64 games.. but he played 33 MPG, and that again isn't going to happen here.

I think it comes down to minutes. If Lue can't keep these guys minutes low, he is insane. He has to learn to use the depth. There is no way around it. He needs to regularly play 10 guys and sometimes 11.

Same thing with Love. He cannot give him extended run at the 5. He has to give TT and Zizic some minutes to spell him. If he runs our more fragile guys into the ground I am going to be pissed.

I do not have much confidence in Lue unfortunately. I wish that i did, really wish i did. Once a coach lets a team become a complete ISO show which is what ended up happening last year, i've lost faith in them. As good as Ky and Lebron are at Iso, its just not a winning gameplan especially against monster teams like GS.

He has done some good stuff here or there, and rested players a lot, but man i would love a coach that could draw up some real plays. Iso on offense and Trapping on defense all ive really seen from guy.

Im probably just spoiled.

But Lue wants to run, and to constantly push the pace. To do that, he needs to have everyone in fantastic shape, so he plays them a lot of minutes to get them in that shape.

Lue scares me, because he very much seems to be the kind of coach who has a set style of play he prefers, and will shoehorn rosters into playing it whether it best suits the talent or not.

We ranked right in the middle in pace last season (15 out of 30). I think those are just buzz words, but it was a dramatic leap from 28th that we were the year before.

Increasing the pace off sets losing our best iso player in kyrie. It also hides our lack of rim protection. Having LBJ and Crowder as 2nd line of defense, the cavs can pressure ball handlers and cause run outs. Rose's burst and Love's oulet passes are ingredients to playing uptempo.

The best thing about zizic's play today is every single one of the things he did will transfer to a real game.

Only really nice thing from the 2nd half was him and Cedi.

While it is waaaaay to early, the thing I like the best is that we have some young talent to develop and should lebron leave for some reason we can maybe rebuild around the brooklyn pick, zizc, cedi, crowder.

Other things I saw.....Rose looked explosive. Crowder will be a huge addition. Wade will great off the bench. Cedi looked nervous as hell, looking forward to seeing him tonight

It is a shame that IT is hurt...adding him, this team will be a lot better this year.

still would pkg what I have to in the RJ, Frye, Shump, our draft pick to get a young PG under control that we can develop. Still not sold on Rose and Wades durability. And Calderon should not be on this team, With the way Z looked, I am a little less interested to look at another big.

Z looked really good and only 20 ?
