Rashard “Hollywood” Higgins

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I've been mocking the Hollywood Higgins Hype Train that was started early this training camp but after 1 pretty good preseason game against an average defense, I have no choice but to change my tune and agree that this guy is For Real.

Alright - I'm a fan. It's hard not to be encouraged. I'm not exactly sure what, if anything, clicked for this guy. But I'm withholding judgment. In the interest of fairness I'll also withhold snark for a while.

I will note that Rashard Higgins ended up playing more offensive snaps than any other pass catcher on the team, but still only managed 27 total catches for 312 yards. He was outcaught by both tight ends, and outtargeted by them plus Coleman and Louis, despite playing anywhere from 90 to 220 more snaps than any of them. If he's turned some corner and is now a reliable 3rd or 4th WR who can actually get open and will catch balls, then all I can do is smile.

And say, "Thanks, Sashi."

I think the most important takeaway thus far is that he seems to have chemistry with Baker. I wouldn't expect him to do much this year, provided Gordon stays healthy and out of trouble, but he could have some nice longer-term potential once Mayfield takes over the team.

From the draft, he was considered a really good route runner, but I am wondering if his work ethic/mentality was something that was holding him back and something got a spark going in him to change it into something that could keep in the NFL. He isn't a great athlete so if he doesn't work hard it will be hard for him to stay in the NFL so hopefully a fire has been lit in him and he starts being the extra hard worker he has to be.

I don’t know if anybody listened to CBD today, but Zegura interviewed Boddy-Calhoun.

He was asked to talk about some of the difficult receivers to cover in camp. With regards to Higgins, he specifically mentioned that on any plays where Rashard gets locked up, he asks the DB’s what he did wrong and what he could’ve done differently. Always evolving.

Clearly he is taking the steps each day to make the jump.

Give me the results, damnit.

So what the hell happened to this guy?

Dude looked like a young stud last year.

Playing time, lack of targets etc all have been things this year.

Looked like Baker's go to safety net last year.

Got injured and then refused to go in a game.

I also think he like calloway I have read their press release is a bit too much.

He has 15, 14, 33, and 29 snaps in the games after he apparently refused to go in, which Jason Lloyd was the only one to report. Last two games he has gotten the 3rd most snaps at WR behind Odell and Landry.

They seem to forget to put the PDF of the snap counts up with the article this week.
