I agree the clown was a bit over the top, and I wasn't a huge fan of the clown's performance, but overall I thought it was a good horror movie that had some nice references to the book and was very well made.

I will say that I was fine with the clown having the strange accent, as it kind of solidified It as some sort of alien being that isn't a native English speaker, which was further hinted a later in the film when they show you the three lights. It kind of threw me off at first, but ultimately I can see the logic behind it.

As someone who read the books, I thought it was about as good an adaptation as we're likely to get. It wasn't perfect, and a lot of things had to be cut, and many others were changed or tweaked, but it was a very well-made film and was well-written as well. They did a good job of making the kids funny and likable, and most films and TV shows really struggle when there are kids involved because most kids can't act for shit. It definitely had a Stranger Things vibe to it, which was perfect for a film like It that takes place during that same time period.

Goddamn, this sounds like exactly what I'm hoping for.

Stranger Things meets a better adaptation of the book.

I felt like the first movie really didn't capture the friend's relationships at all.

I barely even remember what the kids in the first one were like.

These kids were a lot of fun. They had a lot of funny dialogue and the crowd in my theater really ate it up. If I had a complaint, it'd probably be that Mike's character is just kind of there. He joins the group and helps them, but you never really get the sense that he's friends with them really because he wasn't around long enough.

Also, Henry's character is super over-the-top right from the start rather than slowly building toward him losing it. I guess you can credit that to the run time, as they probably just didn't have enough time to slow build it.

The kids in the first movie were good in their own right, like they captured the spirit of some of the characters ok...but the actual relationships weren't impressive. In The Goonies and Stranger Things the actual relationships were there. Especially Stranger Things, which had some of the coolest friendships I've ever seen captured on screen.

It's not quite as good as Stranger Things in that regard, as they didn't have nearly the same amount of time, but I thought the kids were really good in It. They were definitely the highlight of the movie, especially Trashmouth. He was fucking hilarious. Honestly, they did a really nice job of inserting levity into a lot of the scenes via the reactions from the kids.

I'd say my main issue with the film was that it had to rush things quite a bit to fit it all into the run time. But it was a very well done film on par with Stranger Things. Probably not quite as good, but close.

I'm pumped. Don't fuck me on this one.

Really enjoyed it too, although I thought Renner's character was a bit too one note. Like, his response to to everything was "I am a rugged outdoorsemen who has experienced everything, so I will stoically react to every situation". But even in that role, he was good.

And the tension of the 3rd act was just insane, too.

Did you find his character charming?

Didn't see it, but one of my major movie complaints is rushing to an ending.

If you can't tell the story in 1.5-3 hours, don't tell the story, make it a TV show and flesh out a ten hour season.

I mean, they probably should have made this an HBO miniseries or something with eight to ten episodes, but for a two hour movie encompassing roughly half the novel I thought they did a solid job with the adaptation.

It's probably one of the better pure adaptations of a King novel as well. And by pure I mean it doesn't completely change things like The Shining did. The Shining was indisputably a better film but it was much worse as an adaptation of the source material. It's certainly the most complex King work to receiver a proper adaptation. The majority of his successful adaptations tend to be his simpler and/or shorter works.

Does the main character have a huge mole on his cheek? That was the scariest part of the original, and something I'd hope the new one would keep.

If you watched it closely enough, it moved.

I'm going to leave this hanging for weeks.

Did you type that, or was that Mrs. Oi? Because if it was her, I don't think anyone here would blame her.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle

Alot of what I thought about GOTG 2 applies here. The first was unexpectedly great, so there was maybe too much expectations for this one. It was a lot of fun, a lot like the original, but ultimately just not quite as charming. If liked the first one, go this one, it's pretty fun.
