Super excited for The Post. Seeing it Sunday.

Not sure it'll live up to expectations.

Eh. I feel like this years best dramas are really weak.

It's a cool historical drama, that, at no time, did I feel worried like I did in Spotlight.

Movie shines in editing/directing, though. Some really great camera work, especially in the printing scenes (which were the most dramatic).

Also, hate Hanks more and more I watch him. Bob Odenkirk was amazing.

Oscar nominations announced tomorrow morning here are some predictions by me

Best Picture - LadyBird, Dunkirk, Three Billboards, Call Me By Your Name, Get Out, The Post, The Shape of Water

Big Sick, Florida Project, I Tonya and Darkest Hour could all sneak in, and maybe Wonder Woman or Logan finally get a comic book nod. LadyBird, Three Billbaords, Get Out, Call Me by Your Name and Shape of Water could all win.

Best Actor - Gary Oldman, Timothy Chalamet, Daniel Kaluuya, James Franco, Daniel Day Lewis

The Franco stuff came out too late for people not to vote for him. Tom Hanks would probably replace him if it did. I would love for James McAvoy to get a nod for Split, but doubt it will happen. Oldman will likely win. Maybe Chalamet has a shot?

Best Actress - Saoirse Ronan, Frances McDormand, Sally Hawkins, Margot Robbie, Meryl Streep

Would be surprised if this wasn't the 5. Ronan will probably win, but wouldn't be shocked if McDorman or Hawkins won

Supporting Actor - Sam Rockwell, Bob Odenkirk...and who knows

I think this is a weak field. Rockwell will win, and probably should. Although would love if Patrick Stewart got nominated

Supporting Actress - Allison Janney, Laurie Metcalf, Octavia Spencer, Mary J Blige, Holly Hunter

Both Allison Janney and Laurie Metcalf deserve to win. I'd prefer Metcalf, but would be fine with either

Best Director - Guillermo Del Toro, Greta Gerwig, Jordan Peele, Martin McDonagh, Christopher Nolan

Maybe Spielberg gets a nod. Is it too much to ask for Peele to win

Technical awards will probably be some combo of Shape Of Water, Dunkirk and Blade Runner.

You'll probably see Franco nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay too.

I don't think the Franco thing will have that much of an effect.

The allegations against him seem weak compared to what he have seen. 4/5 revolve around actresses not wanting to film topless even though they knew the film required it. If you don't want to execute the terms of employment don't take the job.

He got knocked out by Denzel for best actor. Got best screenplay nod, as did Logan, though, and has a decent shot at winning. Original Screenplay is more stacked this year with Get Out, Shape of Water, 3 Billboards and LadyBird

Also Phantom Thread nabbed best picture and best director nominations. Still won't see it.

Saw Jumanji in a whim and was pleasantly surprised.

Phantom Thread was very good. Comes with a big caveat though... Lot of negative energy, which makes a rewatch a bit daunting. Usually I'm a big fan of rewatching good films, but there's a heaviness to this.

PTA remains the gawd writer/director though.

Also, Daniel Day Lewis and his counterpart Vicky Krieps (who I've never heard of before) were both fantastic.

Denzel is the LeBron of actors. People take for granted his greatness and he loses every year.

Not sure why it took me so long to see Sicario but fuck me, what a ride. One of the most perfectly paced movies i've seen AND I just found out they're releasing a sequel this summer?!

The Open House, Netflix original horror movie.

The last time I ever let my wife pick a movie. Granted, I have said that before. But this was literally the worst movie I've ever seen. I'm going to spoil it for you so you have no interest in watching it. I'm doing you a favor.

Kid and mom move into remote mountain house after dad dies. House is owned by aunt and is for sale. They have to have an open house every Sunday. Some weird things happen in the house, like the pilot light going off, and a bowl of cereal moving rooms. Despite this, the kid and mom don't discuss it with each other. Creepy neighbor with alzheimers can't remember if her husband is dead or not, but don't worry, it's not important to the plot at all. They invite a stranger to stay the night to protect them. Stranger dies at the hand of the killer. Kid accidentally kills mom in the dark creepy basement. Killer chases kid outside. Killer kills kid. Final scene is killer moving onto the next open house.

tl;dr - kid and mom die at hands of killer who kills at open houses but has no other relation to any of the other plot elements in the film

The Shape of Water - 4/10 — And the 4 is just for all of the good actors. So many plot holes. Just completely overrated and gross. But the bright side is that it made me chuckle when I thought about the inter species erotica (circa Clerks 2). I really wish I never saw the movie. Or maybe I just didn’t see the “beauty” in that love story. And it was also “alledgely” plagiarized. (I believe it is)

Three Billboards - 7/10 — I felt there were many plot holes in this movie as well. I’m rooting for Rockwell to win.

Lady Bird - 7/10 — Strong performances and a good storyline.
