My 17 year old daughter said Wonder Woman is the best movie she's seen.

And yes, Three Billboards is great.

Wonder Woman is good, but only especially lauded because the rest of the DC films stink.

Though I here Aquaman is good.

We just watched Green Book - it's really, really good. I've seen 3 of the 5 movies for best supporting actor (Blackkklansman and a star is born are the other two) and Mahershala Ali was the best of the 3.

It’s kind of a joke that Black Panther is nominated for best picture. Fun movie, totally entertaining, and one of the best comic book movies ever made...sure. But Oscar quality? GTFO.

I never said shit movies should get nominated. See my post above for the point I'm trying to make.

The Dark Night is the best movie of 2008, it didn't even get a nomination for best picture or director.

The Dark Knight absolutely should have been nominated and won. It was exceptionally well-acted and directed. It wasn’t just “great for a comic book movie” - it was great period. The American Film Institute even named it one of the 100 greatest movies ever made. But I think the Academy learned afterwards that it was a mistake to ignore Dark Knight just because of its genre. The best picture category was expanded as a fallout of the criticism for ignoring Dark Knight. And, as Black Panther shows, comic book movies can even be nominated for best picture. Though personally I don’t think Black Panther is good enough to be a Best Picture nominee.

The Matrix should have won, Inception should have won - If those movies cant win, then it is proof enough for me that the ones who are part of the voting process are very different from the normal people (and that is me being polite - You shift this thread to EAYOR and i will let loose a verbal diarrhea of expletives)

Green Book?

Really?

Ouffda. People on both sides are going to hate this.

Green Book was great, we just watched it last night.

Yeah, it is good, but I don't think it was so good as to be nominated, much less win.

I think the Spiderman feature should have been nominated instead.

Telling that no one from the Green Book team even thanked Don Shirley (outside of Mahershala during his acceptance).

Roma should have run away with that award.

OF the ones I saw (excluding Black Panther, which wasn't going to win no matter how good), I thought it was the best. And it certainly fit the mold of - if you want to win, true story or musical. This has both, as did bohemian rhapsody. I'm not disagreeing with my earlier argument that genre shouldn't matter, just wondering why "both sides" are going to hate this.

Blackkklansman was good, but I was disappointed to learn afterwards that so much of it wasn't accurate.

A Star is Born was the 4th time telling the same story. I did think Bradley Cooper should have won best actor (again, of the ones I saw). He spent months becoming a musician to play this role. Not faking it, actually playing the intsruments and singing. And did it well enough to win a grammy. That's just crazy.

I haven't seen the Spiderman movie yet.

That was actually a problem with both Green Book and Bohemian Rhapsody as well. Lot of inaccuracies and distortions in both, it seems.

wasn't as clear with Green Book. Shirley's family said there were, the guy who wrote it said Shirley told him don't talk to my family, they don't know what happened because they weren't there. Of course, he could have personal bias since it was written by Tony's son.

Blackkklansman, so many things I said "how did that even happen" only to find out afterwards it didn't. As a work of historical fiction, it was great, but the movie emphasized "this really happened".

I've only seen 2 of nominees so far (Black Panther and Bohemian Rhapsody). I loved BP, but it was a comic book movie, and I really enjoyed Bohemian Rhapsody, but moreso as a Queen tribute than an actual biopic. I don't think it was a strong year.

I'll get to Star is Born, BlackkKlansman and Green Book soon enough. Maybe once I see those I'll change my tune. Interested in Favourite, too.

why should it matter that it was a comic book movie.

And all 3 are good.
