Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think Tyrod is fully aware that he's basically getting this season with the Browns to audition for his next team. He's going to start and get every opportunity to play well and, if he does, he'll likely get a nice contract from someone next year. It's win-win for him and the Browns. They've given him a lot of weapons and he should be able to showcase himself this year.

Just saw a report about the Browns being willing to extend Taylor.

If so would be one of the best back ups in the league.

Exactly. If Baker Mayfield - the first overall pick in a very good draft - doesn't look more naturally talented than Tyrod Taylor - a former 6th round pick - then John Dorsey can already go fuck himself with ManKok. Mayfield should look far more talented. The key here is putting Mayfield in the best possible position to succeed when he does start. Tyrod will be a game manager until that day comes, and he will do it playing a very similar style to Mayfield.

I doubt he'd be terribly interested in the backup role, though. I guess we'll see.

Not just that, but Tyrod handled his ridiculous benching last year with a ton of class by helping Peterman along, and by all accounts he's been a perfect vet for Mayfield along with Stanton. He's making himself a ton of money on the back end of his career as a backup that coaches will want to have, specially if Mayfield kills it when he does play.

In theory? Yes you need Tyrod to start and you need him on the roster for the foreseeable future.

The three ideal things that Tyrod needs to do are:
1.) Play well enough so that Hue doesn't start Baker before the Bye-week. Joe Thomas and others have nailed it. He needs to watch to understand the speed of the game and be able to ease into it.
2.) Be willing to play the role of "coach" with Mayfield. This is VERY key because there has been situations where a veteran will not help the rookie because he views him as competition.
3.) IF Mayfield pans out as expected? Willing to stick around.

And I tend to agree. I would be rather alarmed if Mayfield looked like trash compared to Tyrod. You drafted this guy first overall. His talent should be so far and above that it should be making you have this debate.

....

This being said? This is a tough division, a tough transition and something that is going to require patience.

And be fucking careful going off of Preseason, Training camp hype. Many a Browns QB has shown promise and then fell flat in the regular season.

Ease off the gas. Let this thing run it's course.

I feel like coming out and saying Baker is better for the long term kind of undermines Tyrod.

I mean yeah we all know that's true but Hue saying it is dumb.

By Grabthar's Hammer, what an idiot.

Hue Jackson must have a PhD in demoralizing his own players.

Ah, no it isn't. Tyrod knows the score and Hue saying this doesn't mean shit.

It definitely does. Can't believe this fucking idiot is still coaching this team.
Bullshit. You're wrong that saying this makes the slightest difference. Tyrod understands the situation perfectly as does the entire team and organization. Thinking this undermines anything is stupid.

I agree this statement doesn't make much difference, but I also agree with @Ohio that this dipshit shouldn't be coaching the team. He's a fucking fool.

Try telling your girlfriend she actually does look fat in that outfit and see if it makes a difference in your relationship :chuckle:

A little tact can go a long way, even if it's just a temporary relationship.
Tyrod is a big boy and he understands his situation perfectly. What Hue said simply doesn't matter and it changes absolutely nothing.

Whatever happened to "Behind Baker"?

Was that just something he was doing for the draft, or do they plan on doing more shows?
