Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I wasn't a Mayfield guy, I liked Rosen which is why I'm glad I'm not the GM. Dorsey was spot on this kid can play. Listening to Carl Banks and the Giants commentators rave about him was a very nice change.

I honestly don't know what you saw that made you think he had any pocket jitters. That was one of the most impressive things to me was his pocket awareness, kept moving his feet, moved up in the pocket to buy time and kept his eyes downfield. The few times he took off for first downs it was last resort, but he shows an innate awareness of the pocket around him.

Only nit picky thing I see is he needs to continue to work on footwork, and not throwing from his back foot so much. Not surprisingly his worst throws came when he did that.

But I saw literally zero jitters. Just don't agree with that characterization.
The bolded was what I meant. His footwork in the pocket was jittery. Perhaps "jitters" was the wrong word.

Don’t knock yourself on Rosen.

everybody enough with the feet already....he'll be fine

What was that?

Joking aside, he wasn't helped by our line play. The fact he looked calmed under a lot of pressure was nice to see. With that said, our O-line play looked pretty meh across the board, regardless of 1st team vs. backups. Not what I wanted to see considering the investments we've made there recently.

he looked very promising. i know its just preseason and it was just the Giants, but he seemed to do all the right things. went thru his progressions before running, saw the field pretty good for a short guy. im trying to not get too excited about him but i really like what i saw.

Yeah, cool story, but hardly anyone who knows how to turn on a computer remembers how Otto Graham played. I suggest you guys research his contribution to Cleveland. He was a bad ass.

Otto Graham is a great comparison for Baker. He too was a 6'0 tall QB, and like Baker some day, he led the Browns to 7 championships.

Graham ended his career over 60 years ago but the comparison is still valid right? I mean how much has the NFL changed in 60 years?

You really don't quit, huh?

We're going to have to pretend like I said Baker Mayfield was the Ethan Albright of QBs coming out. All so you can seek the acknowledgement you so desperately seek.

Relax bud I’m just messing with you.

You just don’t like to admit when you are wrong so I’m going to playfully toy with you about it.

It’s okay to have underestimated him it’s clear you’re starting to come around.

In college, and on tape, it was clear that he didn’t.

Doesn’t mean he couldn’t, but there isn’t a single person who can honestly watch the college tape and say, yeah, he can move through progressions so quickly.

Yes I can. Because I saw him do it.

Appreciate it, son.

I mean, personally I’d wait a smidge until after preseason week one, but hey.

Do you..

Oh don’t worry there’s more to come going forward.

PS. I thought Tyler Bray was going to be a first round pick.

Heh. But I'm serious. How many times have you heard "Browns have never even been to a Super Bowl?" It's completely true, and a pretty sad commentary on the franchise. It's usually some anal Browns fans who brings up Otto Graham and the pre-Super Bowl era as if that somehow mitigates the failure, but that was more than 50 fucking years ago. The Super Bowl era is a different period of football in which Graham never played. So I don't think it is really being "lawyerly" to point that out.

Would it shock you to know the last time a team went an entire game without throwing a pass... It was the Otto Graham led Cleveland Browns in 1950. And they won in a classic Municipal Stadium mud wrestling match against the Eagles.

For me personally, I like to embrace historic Cleveland. It ties me to my family and ancestry, especially no longer living there. If that is so wrong, I suppose I could finally give in and become a Bay Area smug asshat. I prefer the former.
