I was a HUGE fan of taking Baker before we drafted him. I watched hours of tape (not highlights - ALL of their passes) of each of the top 4 QBs in the draft (Baker, Darnold, Allen, Rosen). Baker blew them out of the water. I had no pre-bias either... I don't watch college football and don't care to. It wasn't Baker's system - it was his ability to:
1. Read the defense pre-snap
2. Pick a high-efficient target as a result
3. Make multiple reads and cycle through options quickly if that initial target isn't open
4. Demonstrate pocket presence and awareness of defenders and blitzes
5. Deliver the ball powerfully and accurately
He protects the ball well, makes good decisions but does it while being a gun-slinger. He's not an ultra-conservative good decision-maker. He has been relatively healthy and can make plays with his feet. Darnold fumbles all the time and fails against talent, Rosen crumbles under pressure and will likely stay hurt, and Allen just plain sucks. Strong arm and nothing else.
The ONLY knock against Baker was just his height. If he were 6'4, he would've been the consensus #1 overall and likely Andrew Luck-ish can't-miss pick. So you have to ask yourself... why would you allow his height (which isn't even THAT bad... he's practically 6'2) overshadow all of the above?
I'm sorry, but the rest of the guys just didn't compare to Baker and I saw that. I knew it. I'm so glad we drafted him and it's fun to look back at threads and see all the fans who were mad. Baker hasn't PROVEN anything yet, but I guarantee they're not feeling quite the same way about him right now.
