Let me clarify, a golden penis is an honor and I was very close rep wise to getting one. This thread wasn't to whore myself out or be an annoyance but rather a legit question asking if reps could be taken away.

That is all.

Well that's obvious. You haven't said anything rep worthy or gained any rep in this thread...

You weren't close. You were about 18,000 away. If 100 thanks are worth 100 each without the old school rep, then you were 17,000+ away from still attaining your goal. Sorry.

But reps can be taken away because a post was not only locked, but removed from the system, which rarely happens but only when something crazy and outrageous was shown that needed to be removed. For that to happen, was probably not worth doing at all...

You already have one golden penis. How many penises do you need?

If 100reps = 100pts/each doesn't 100reps = 10000rep pts? That means he would have been 8,000 away...

My math or understanding could be off? I dunno...

No. While he was trying to get a trophy. He was at about 42,000 reputation. So since my rep power is worth about 3,000 reputation, I gave about 6 or 7 old school reps to lend a hand. A trophy was clearly awarded to the poster who got it through kindness and the other was handed a nice big can of nothing for his hard work.

Reputation is awarded differently. Thanks represents 1 rep. Barely anything. Old school rep represents the rep power of the poster, or 1 percent of his total reputation (mostly). I have over 300,000 reputation, so my rep power was 3,000. 3,000 • 6 = 18,000. 60,000 reputation = the amount needed to get close to the trophy Andrew desired. Check the User CP for details or the bottom of any member's profile. Check reputation. I don't know about rep points, because I haven't seen them.

This guy does a good job of describing this shit better than I can, so:

Clicking on thanks adds to the original poster's "thanks total", which contributes to rep power.

Giving thanks by clicking the person icon gives the original poster your "full rep" or "old school rep" (calculated from a user's rep power). It's a way to thank someone anonymously (or to leave a note) and also a way to reward them with far more rep points (as you accrue them) than the thanks button. For someone like you, rabman, giving rep with the person icon gives far more rep points because you have so much rep power. A new poster who gives "full rep" is comparable to the rep calculated by giving through the thanks button.

So, hitting the "thanks" button is basically "1" (it's the same no matter who uses the thanks button), while using the person icon is variable (1 and higher) depending on the rep power of the thanker. The actual numbers use a different scale internally but that's the basic way it works.

Just not understanding it...

I think you need to go ahead and break it down in table form for me. :chuckles:

thanks rabman, I didn't know who the reps were from.

All of my reps received are un-anonymous. That means I know who's giving me thanks and reps (and I love you guys for it).

Description|Reputation|Reputation Power
Definition|Total amount of points you have earned|Total amount of points you can give to another user
Where to Find it|In the User CP or any profile|Your own User CP (it's a little more private)
How much are they worth?|Your total points from being repped + thanks received (1 thank you = 1 rep)|Usually 1% of your total rep
How much I would have (around)|300,000+|3,000+
How much Andrew would have|65,000+|650+
A new User would have HOW MUCH?|1|1
A golden trophy (or golden p-n-s) have have|About 60,000|Around 600
A super Moderator would have|1,000,000|10,000
If you needed 18,000 reps for a trophy|42,000+|rabman_gold's old school reps multiplied 6 times per post (which means, I have power to give you a trophy if you ask me nicely :chuckles:)

Help ya out enough, Marcus :chuckles:?

Charity rep? The whole rep thing is gay...but that's gayer than gay. May have to ban you for a week over this abuse.

W&G makes all of our rep/thanks look miniscule so who cares anyway. Seriously though, a good joke back in the day would land like 5 or 6 thanks tops and now a good joke puts you at 30+. I remember back in the day, I posted an animated gif that I made and it got like 35 thanks and that was like a record. This site has grown so much..

Sorry about that. I was doing several things when trying to do so:

  1. I pitied Andrew for his dilemma. So I tried to get him to stop whining a little.
  2. I don't do charity reps. I only thank people when I like the post, but old school rep when something REALLY caught my eye. So I don't abuse it and never will.
  3. For some people, reps are what makes this site so great. I know you don't care, but because of the respect you demand from people, you're the second highest on the ladder. So the irony is: You don't care about them, but you're the best at them. W&G is probably the same way as most of the other members. Me? I don't really care either, I like being smart and nice.
  4. I made a mistake in judgment. It won't happen again.
I hope I didn't do anything outrageously wrong. But it won't be a problem with me. I promise.
