RG3 Out Until 2014?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Mike Shanahan should be banished from Washington. How do you put your rookie QB in a position like that?

There's a double edged sword here. Remember when everyone called cutler out and questioned his toughness because he wouldn't play hurt.

I don't question RGIII's toughness at all. I question the sanity of the coach who clearly saw him hobbling and hurting his team with his inability to throw or run and still left him in because "he's my guy". What he should have done was protect RGIII from himself and made the decision to take him out. I don't think any Washington fan would have argued given how they struggled on offense.

agreed. I really am turned off by the argument "the fans would have been outraged if he was benched". Any "fan" with half a brain could tell he was like 50%. If they have a problem with him being on the bench, fuck em. I'll never question RGIII's toughness, but as a coach, you have to step in.

As for Cutler, he is a puss.

Except RGIII wanted to go back in the game. However, that decision shouldn't be up to him. It should be up to the team's medical staff. The medical staff exists for a reason, and that's to make sure coaches and players don't make stupid decisions that lead to severe injuries. The fact that RGIII tweaked his already injured knee and wasn't even examined by one of the top knee surgeons in the world before returning to the game is borderline criminal negligence on the part of the Redskins. Further, the fact that he wasn't pulled at any point later in the game when he was noticeably hobbled doesn't help Shanahan's case.

Look, if RGIII had gone out there reasonably healthy (like at the start of the game) and cleared to play and shredded his knee the first time he tweaked it, that's just bad luck. It happens. Even totally healthy players have that happen to them. However, that isn't what happened. He hurt himself, never even saw a team doctor, and was put back in despite being visibly hurt. It was negligence on the part of the team and the coaches. It has nothing to do with RGIII's toughness and I don't think anybody would have questioned how tough he was if the doctors examined him and deemed him unfit to return to the game.

Someone needs sued that's for sure.

I mean, this is America, right?

DC fans are noting this is the third time Shanahan has been at the very least overly aggressive and perhaps downright careless with RG3's health. He played a week after suffering a concusion and Shanahan had him running the whole offense -- lots of QB runs. Then he put him back into the Baltimore game without getting proper clearence. And finally the Seattle game, where it was obvious RG3 needed to be pulled.

That franchise risked the long-term health of its star player for short-term gain -- and lost that bet terribly. They need some adults to take control of that organization.
