Ricky Rubio & Derrick Williams look good in debut

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If the Cavs landed the ball they were supposed to land then who says the Clippers pick would've been #2? Stern never would've made the riggage so obvious.

edit: and who says the Cavs would've even picked Wiliams over TT?

Our pick was supposed to be 2. The Clips was supposed be 7 or 8 - they (we) hit lottery gold by landing the first pick. The odds were in our favor to get the 2. Unfortunately, we lost our own lottery and ended up picking in the lowest spot possible (for our pick, it was 4). If our odds came through, we'd have 1 and 2. Unfortunately, Nick's luck ran out :(

I think Rubio is the best kind of point guard for what the Twolves have. As a pass first PG, he isn't going to be demanding shots and giving the ball to players where they can score. With Beasley as the first scorer and Love as another scoring option they have a ton of scoring in the starting line up. With Williams, they get another offensive powerhouse. The biggest weakness seems to be the defense at the wing spot, but who knows, with the way the West is going out, they might be able to improve their success.

That all depends on how poorly Rubio shoots. If he shoots under 37% from the field, opponents will just leave him alone from outside of 15 feet like Eric Snow. This will mean the other offensively talented players will struggle to find any room to operate. Add to this some doubts I have about his strength on the defensive end, and he might put up a few interesting numbers while costing his team wins because of his glaring weaknesses.

From what i saw he looked pretty good on defense, granted he was playing Jennings, we'll have to see how he does against guys like Rose and Westbrook. I think he did the right thing in waiting to come to the NBA because now he actually looks like he belongs on the floor at least.

Wince-esque at the 5 minute mark. So Euro of him. :chuckles: Joking.

Rubio looks like a tremendous passer who doesnt give any signs where he is passing to. He will need to rely on an attentive crew thats ready for the ball at any time. He will also get a bit more creative fredom in the nba than he did in europe which takes advanaatage of his misdirection passing but yes with his outside shot he wont be much of a threat without the ball and teams will stay back when he drives and make him shoot it. Although at 9:54 he does show why you wouldnt want him to leave him alon with clear passing lanes outside the arc

It seems that they plan on putting Rubio on the SG defensively with Barea defending the opponent's PG. This is why I had some concerns about his strength, but the Timberwolves have great size at the forward positions.

I was adamant about not buying League Pass again... but the Timberwolves and Clippers might make me change my mind. I knew Love would end up being the better pro than Mayo (they were traded for each other on draft night).

And really, the Wolves should have more talent than the Cavs. They've been in the lottery for like 5-6 straight years.

(Can you imagine if we'd landed the top 2 picks and gotten Irving and Williams??? Damn...)

Just illegal stream it. Too much money.

i still can't believe i have one of the few "major" cable providers in the US that does not offer league pass. streaming it seems so lame.

Yeah, but it's really not a bad picture. Obviously, watching it on TV is better but it's not awful.

I'm a huge Rubio fan and think he'll end up being one of the better point guards in this league. The guy's court vision and ability to control a game are exceptional. He reminds a bit of Jason Kidd (without the top-notch speed). Don't forget, there have been plenty of point guards that have thrived in this league without being able to shoot. Kidd couldn't shoot, Rondo can't shoot, Andre Miller is a bricklayer beyond 15 feet. I really don't think Rubio's inability to shoot will hurt him that much.

True. His D is a bigger problem.
