Rodney Hood: Won't be missed

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I have no idea what Lue's rotation is going to look like, but I'm scared, guys, real scared.

What? You thought the Cavs were going to play young talent, get 50 wins, and go toe-toe with Boston in the ECF?

Here's what I expect--
  • Cavs are going to put on a brave face like they are playing for the ECF in the preseason
  • Young talent is on lots of posters because the front office is not planning on trading them
  • As soon as the season starts, the team trots out a showcase of veteran schmoes & schmucks, with Hood leading the way
  • This continues until the vets get injured, traded, waived, or the all star break
  • We see just enough Sexton to keep fans from immediately slitting their throats
  • With a little bit of luck, we will get to see Cedi, Z, & Nance before March & April.
  • Maybe Love stays healthy and on the team and we get 8th seed
  • Rooks go berzerk and take Boston to 7 games

I guess that would be kind of ideal. I could live with that, but I am reserving my right to complaint pre-allstar break. I'll be going berserk if JR is getting heavy minutes after the trade deadline.

He was, in fact, benched. He received numerous DNP-CD's that were not related to injuries at all.

He fell completely out of the rotation multiple times last year.
Don’t know how you can disagree with me posting a fact.

I dont think Hood is part of a winning team, but here's hoping he will prove me wrong
You say that like we will be a winning team

He’ll probably put up 17-20 ppg on this team

He’s gonna be needed

I cannot see Hood scoring 17 a night on this team, but I can se him giving up 20 defensively..

I think Cedi steps up this year to help Love with scoring, but its unclear to me who gets minutes..

I'm glad the deal is done and that the Cavs didn't pay a ridiculous amount. He either shows and proves or gets the boot. That's fair, given his brief time with the Cavs.

Optimistically I expect a lot of "why couldn't he have done this when we needed him".

There's a lot of uncertainty coming up. I'm embracing it.

As far as the scorers on the floor, I gotta think Collin puts up 13-14 pts. They will not be able to keep him out of the starting lineup for this very reason. Even as a rook, he is gonna be a better scorer than Hill.

Rodney is going to chuck a lot of shots IMO. I think they trade him by the deadline most likely.

I think if they had the intentions of trading him they would have given him a slight pay bump on a one year deal. His trade value would be so much higher with his bird rights. I think even if he plays well it will be like a Tyreke Evans at the trade deadline. No one will want to pony up enough for us to trade him.

I think if he plays poorly, he will just be trade filler so he can get a fresh start.

Cavs would have to give Hood a three year deal for his full bird rights to stay intact after a trade. I don’t think Hood was going to accept a three year deal at a price that the cavs were willing to pay. It would have put the Cavs into the Luxury tax again.

If it’s a one year deal, Cavs had no incentive to pay Rodney more than the QO.

Can you explain this further? I looked up cbafaq.com for the rule but couldn't seem to find it. I read both sections on restricted free agents and bird rights. Is it because we extending him the qualifying offer?

ABOUT RODNEY HOOD

1. The Cavs wanted to sign Hood to a 3-year deal in the $21 million range. He was a restricted free agent. He waited for an offer sheet from a different team that never came. He ended up signing the $3.4 million qualifying offer, setting him up to become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

2. Hood was averaging 16.8 points with Utah when he was traded to the Cavs in February. He thought he was heading for a big contract extension with someone. But Hood struggled playing with James and in the Cavs offense. His scoring dropped to 10.8 points. He seemed to go into a funk, and really had problems in the playoffs.

3. The 6-foot-8 Hood is only 25 years old. Despite the two sides being unable to come to a long term contract agreement, the Cavs plan to start Hood and want him to be a part of their future. Lue is setting up more plays for Hood to run around picks to create open shots -- something he did in Utah.

....

5. Hood is athletic. He can run, drive and defend -- when motivated. He will be playing a lot with Sexton, a hyper-speed point guard. The Cavs will give him a chance to display his skills.
