Rodney Hood: Won't be missed

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Ok, getting a 1st round pick for Hood would be awesome but I don't understand why so many people on here do not like him. The dude is putting up good stats and he is above average when creating offense for him self. He can also knock down 3s and is young.

He's a black hole. He is going to shoot if the ball gets to him. Doesn't help Cedi or Collin's development IMO. HE also needs to shoot 3's and defend.

His list of intagibles is completely intangible. I can't see anything he does but score.

He is a black hole. But offensively he is an above average player. If he could develop good defense...

He'll be gone by the trade deadline .... as long as he waives his no trade.

For me, him being a black hole isn't the worse part of his game. The fact that he can't get comfortable unless he is creating for himself is why I have given up on him. If he was able to contribute to the offense and not suck up the play clock then he would be at least a last ditch option. Right now we have to give him the ball early in the shot clock so he can do his thing to hopefully knock down a shot. Sexton or Cedi can't even set him up for the shot or go thru other options on the floor before giving it to him.

So?

We dont even go through Cedi. Sexton a little. We pass the ball around the top of the perimiter and wait for Clarkson or somebody to bail us out. When really it would be more effective to let somebody 1 on 1. Which we do sometimes with Hood and Clarkson and Sexton. Cedi should be in this role primarily as hes the most versatile and has good athleticism. The only knock on him on these forums is his ball handling. This is a season Cedi should be developed. And we're not doing that. I wanted to say more on Cedi but forgot.

Zizic not getting playing time is a travesty. This is a first round pick(Celtics) who is 7 feet tall. He has a good touch. Has post moves(his hook) and can pass. He rebounds. Why isn't he getting play time? Because he's in the coaches dog house. It's unfortunate.

It kills the development of Sexton and Cedi as ball handlers. Just move him for an asset and find someone that can play off the ball which will help Sexton and Cedi become better passers.

Hood might have the tools to be a star but I just don't see him putting it together. He lacks the drive to be aggressive and the vision to get others involve. I'd much rather gives the possessions and reps to Sexton, Cedi, and Nance.

What I don't understand is why he is playing clutch time minutes and taking the game-deciding shots, unless he is considered to be part of the future. Even if he makes them, I think these have no contribution to his trade value. It takes an opportunity for the others to experience and learn something. We don't really care about winning that much, well it might have been good if we could draw a play that involves Cedi, Sexton etc. and win but a Rodney Hood iso does not build confidence or anything.

I would rather have Cedi, Sexton, Zizic miss those shots than Hood make them.

It sucks the ball gets to him and he dribbles a little bit and pulls up from the free throw line or top of the key. Bad influence on section if anything .

I wish good would just take the open 3 or pass it

I can't forgive him for last year's playoffs. Shrunk into a tiny hard turd in the spotlight. I don't see the personal growth to make me think he wouldn't do it again if the Cavs get back to the playoffs.

They want to trade him. That is why they are pumping him up.

I understand the logic but I can't imagine any playoff team who would use a Rodney Hood iso at the end of a game and hope that his performance in a no-pressure Cavs team in regular season would translate to playoff success.
Maybe I am too pessimistic, I don't know. With Lue, I was confident that there is no way he could get another head-coaching job. With Hood and Clarkson, we can get something in return but I think it is very little. I don't see any quality in them.

I see him going in a Burks trade where they can shed 13M and get 2 reasonable wings. It could be to Houston. D'antoni will yell at Rodney for dribbling and ask him to take the open 3, haha.

Many teams need wings that can do something. Burks is a decent defender and can definitely help shore up your bench, and I think you would sell them on Rodney for the same thing.

No nobody is going to out Hood in at crunch time and put the ball in his hands, but the team is obviously trying to pump up his stats. They may also be trying to build his confidence so he looks good to scouts.

I tend to agree with your final statement but Coach Drew wouldn't allow for that. If it isn't Hood, it's going to likely be Clarkson and that isn't any better.

Rodney Hood has value on our team. He isn't a selfish gunner and I think he wants to play well. He just might only be a slightly above average sort of player. I think people bag to hard on the guy. He isn't perfect but he's a better player than given credit for by many a poster.

Sorry Lum, I am not going to hit you with a disagree, but I don't see any positive contribution from Rodney. He has no upside and is all he is goin to be. He does not help anybody and is a black hole on offense. IF we get a second back for him, given the players we have now (Burck, Blossomgame, Nwaba for example) who are better contributors, I think you take it and move on.

I think most people that hope we can move Hood also hope Clarkson is gone too. I would even get rid of Burks.

I think once Love and TT come back, the small lineups won't be needed as much. Cedi and Nwaba can play SG/SF. We can let Delly get some burn at SG with Sexton at PG. I think Blossomgame could play SF. Hopefully we get some spot up shooters in return for the players we trade.
