Rodney Hood: Won't be missed

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He's most likely looking at around $11M/yr.. So $44M/4Y in this market, with the diminishing amount of cap space, with the 4th year as a player option. That would probably be a good scenario for both, and I can't see any team offering him $12-15M+ a year this offseason.

Also, it would behoove the Cavs to work out an extension now rather than having Hood test the market. His agent should realize how the cap situation looks and it might make sense for them to just lock in on a decent deal now rather than testing restricted free agency only to come up short.

4 years 44 Million seems solid but my only worry is the nets throwing out some kind of stupid offer like they did with Allen Crabbe and Tyler Johnson especially if he shows well rest of the way.

This is one reason to get him a lot of playing time so that the Cavs actually know what they'd be getting into. If the change in scenery improves his consistency and defensive effort, then the stars are aligned for the Cavs to get a pretty decent deal. If not....then you just tender him and let it ride another year.

Lopez said he doesn't want a buyout; so, doesn't seem like that's going to happen. Also with Nance out of the rotation, and Frye probably a buyout candidate (GSW?), Lopez will likely get significantly more playing time.

It's a problem... we need a center still, nothing's changed. We are still weak defensively with TT anchoring our defense. Nance can't and will not be a starting 5.

TT can't continue to start... if we don't fix our long term issue at the 5, we seriously fucked up the deadline.

If we don't acquire atleast an average caliber starting center through the buyout market, then that FRP at the very least should have been used to facilitate a trade for one.

Unless Frye really asks Luke for it, I wouldn’t be so sure.

Frye and RJ(if he wants it) may both get groomed into Luke’s staff. I think Frye sticks around this year for that reason but we’ll know for sure as things play out over the season.

And you’re right on about the Cavs aggressively looking to extend both Clarkson and Nance before they have an opportunity to hit the market.

With Hood I think they have to wait until the season over(but before FA). With Nance not so sure when they can begin talks to extend him.

I’d offer Hood 4/44 with 4th year a player option or non guaranteed

Offer Nance 3/24

I don't think this is an issue that will get resolved this season; and by "this" I mean our defense.

We've just got to find a core that gels, a bench that works, and look forward to the draft. Hopefully the Nets will tank.

The amount of length we added alone will give our defense a massive boost.

As will singing a guy like Lopez.

Also TRANSITION DEFENSE should be boosted.

I think like Hood coming off the bench initially ..

Clarkson
Hood
Korver
Cedi
Nance

Would be an undersized by explosive 2nd unit with 2-3 good shooters and the ability to run teams off the floor...obviously my guess is Bron or Hill ultimately gets alot of PT with this unit

Lue was just quoted in ESPN he sees JR as the starter.....no surprise. I think it’s a mistake. Hood could really blossom alongside LBJ.

“Lue said that he envisions JR Smith remaining as the starter at shooting guard despite Cleveland adding Hood and Clarkson”

Jesus Christ. I guess I'm going to owe some money if it plays out this way. Didn't think Lue could be this dumb. Live and learn.

We need to be integrating our best recent acquisitions with the starters -- definitely Hood, possibly Nance as well -- so they can get more familiarity before the playoffs. We need to figure out our single best lineup and give it a lot of time together.

I think he said he was going to start Hood and JR. Hopefully Hood way outplays JR and then Clarkson has JR and Korver to kick to and Nance to finish.

I don't think so..

Hood is a terrible defender, Clarkson is.. not good.. Nance is a good defender, but not versatile across the front court and not a rim protector.

Hill was a great defender, but he's not at the moment -- we'll have to see if he can get back to form.

What might improve us defensively is effort and the growth of these players and perhaps a system that can be tailored to their strengths and weaknesses.

ESPN on their bullshit again. If you listen to Lue's interview today, the actual context was way different than what is portrayed. Yes, he envisions JR as possibly remaining the starter, but that is also because he envisions Hood possibly starting at the 3 while Love is out. He specifically mentioned rolling with Hill, JR, Hood, LBJ, TT as the starters, which is fine.
