Denzel Ward

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Haden was good until they started cracking down on corners being physical off the line. Once he couldn’t jam a WR he started to go down.

Ward is pure talent. Faster quicker and better instincts than Haden.

I think it has just as much to do with the leg injuries, if not more. He was never the fastest guy, but he just became really slow afterwards.

Gary Baxter wants to talk to all of you... wait he just injured his jaw when he was about to speak.

Also both knees fell off when he tried to stand up.

Leon McFadden is on hold; if someone could pick that up id appreciate it because I’m on lunch.

Ward was directly responsible for taking two scores off the board.

He picked off Flacco in the red zone which kept them from a potential touchdown.

And the blocked FG attempt took 3 off the board.

amazing.

I don't really know how PFF weighs/factors everything that happens during a game, but it sure seems like they don't put enough weight on big/game-changing plays. Ward's blocked FG and INT saved us 10 points alone. That alone should give him a much higher grade IMO.

I don’t think they count the blocked fg, that’s a special teams play and would be on that list?

1) They don't count special teams.

2) Ward got dinged because he missed two tackles - stupid, yeah, but has nothing to do with coverage.

3) Ravens threw the ball at Ward 14 times. He gave up 5 catches for 60 yards and he had an interception. His coverage was perfectly fine.

4) Most importantly, it is a weird grade. A big part of it is that PFF double-counts tackling for run defense. SO, because Ward missed two tackles, both against the run, both his tackling grade and run defense grade take a hit.

You guys should also consider that corners notoriously have overall PFF ratings suppressed because of run support dings and how CB's typically rate out poorly in that metric.

The important thing here is Ward rated out as the #1 CB in week 5 opposing passer rating (19.9) with a minimum of 20 coverage snaps.

On the season, he also has the second best coverage grade in the league (83.1) among players with 100 or more defensive snaps.

So I wouldn't worry about how he compares to other positional groups in the rating system. He is dominating amongst corners, who are the players he is measured against around the league.
