Rudy Gay

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If Griffin is looking for versatility, in the age range of 26-30 and someone who is good and Rudy is available. Pull the damn trigger.

Gay would start as a 2, could spell lebron in 6-8 minute stretches and could work great as a stretch 4 in small ball line ups with Love at C. Plus he creates his own shot, something the Cavs definitely need if either LBJ or KI go down.

I can't see Gay playing the 2. His skill set is perfect for SF.

edit: My primary concern regarding Gay is why has he been such a journeyman? I thought he fit perfectly with Memphis and then he was traded...a year later, traded. Now he is on the trading block again?

Will he willingly accept a smaller role? What is his personality like? All of these, besides his production, should factor into this decision. We know all too well how one unhappy camper can spoil the entire team.

LeBron is an inter-changeable perimeter player. He doesn't have a serious set position.

He plays the point guard position technically.

The NBA no longer has traditional positions, outside center and point guard.

Everything else is just perimeter player almost.

Gay would play like a small forward in our system. Kyrie plays like a shooting guard, and LeBron is obviously the point guard.

What position we call them doesn't mean shit.

Yes, LBJ can play any position but he is a generational talent. The only other player that came close to that type of versatility was Magic. You can't use that as the basis for position-less basketball.

For position-less basketball to work, you can't have a "ball-stopper." Gay is one. That's not a knock on him. He just needs the ball in his hands to be most effective. Also, you don't get much defensively from him. That's another integral part of position-less basketball.

Position-less basketball is this new "buzz-word" Is it really even a real thing yet? It all depends on the team you are playing against. There are still a ton of teams built in the traditional sense.

IMO, Bradley would be a better fit if that's the direction they plan to go in. He can play PG, SG, and defend PG's and most other SG's.

To add on to your point. There is this crazy RCF fantasy that we are going to have all these offers like we are in a candy store to chose from. Reality is we may only get one or two real offers by late July. The posters here (some of them vets) that would pass on Gay if he was offered to us today are out of their minds. For the record, I dont think we have enough to make it worth it for Sac to do the deal. But my god some of you are off your rocker not taking a top 30-40 nba player for an expiring deal, kuan and second rounders. Seriously get a hold of yourslelves.

This. I would love Rudy Gay but it seems farfetched to think we could pull that deal off without giving up much ourselves besides Haywood. I think even Splitter/Mills is quite farfetched, I would love it but it seems like a bit of a fantasy. I suspect that we will end up settling for less than people here would want. But I would love to get more.

So I was listening to a media podcast about the kings (it is really one of the best indep ones out there in the nba) and they claim that Gay is not being traded and is in the plans to start at SF. They kind of insisted Gay would not be salary dumped. Makes me think we dont have enough assets to get him. Coming to terms that this is a super long shot with the Haywood target.

I was thinking moving Gay hinged on clearing space for Rondo though.

But it sounds like they want Ty Lawson, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a swap for Rudy Gay.

I don't know how else they're going to get Lawson, given everything else outside Cousins is pretty much garbage.

Collison and McLemore (who they probably wouldn't want to trade) doesn't match.

I think it's pretty obvious Lawson is out the door, given who the Nuggets drafted.

I listened to Vlade today. He was very very candid as a Gm, (not sure it is because he is new at this or what) they dont plan on spending a ton on free agency The podcast said they do like Rondo but only on a discounted rate, hence they dont need to dump gay and give him away, basically making our chances small at best.

I agree, I don't think we're getting him. I was just suggesting a Gay-for-Lawson swap might be what happens.

I don't think they're going to give Gay away though. And I sure wouldn't, for a player like Rondo. I rather have Lawson over Rondo anyways.

I think maybe they trade for Lawson, try to appease Karl halfway about this nonsense of trading for Boogie.

I am starting to really go back and temper my expectations with this Haywood contract. The names of Wade, and Gay are probably pipe dreams in reality. AT this point I just hope we can use it someway somehow to get a rotational player better then deli, miller, and or James Jones. That is my hope at least.

Splitter and Mills is starting to be my ceiling. I don't expect a star, or borderline star player at all. People are going to be disappointed when it doesn't happen, but I see it almost impossible that it happens.

No one wants to help us out. The only way we're getting quality players, is if a team desperately needs to get rid of them for something else.

That's why Splitter and Mills makes a lot of sense. And hey, that's an awesome get for Haywood's contract. Haywood is useless, if you can get two rotational players for him, that's pretty damn lucky.
