Series #16 Indians Vs Oakland

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think you are going to be very disappointed expecting the Indians to spend that much- in prospects or cash- with where they currently are in the standings. 13 of their next 17 games are vs. current AL playoff teams. Truly a make or break 2 weeks.

Not going to disagree this is make or break, but Seattle isn't keeping EE and Eaton will be cut for next season, so both teams are looking to get a solid prospect back for them, even if they pay for part of the contract. They may cost us less than you think because of that fact.

The guys now, still have to go out and win these next few games and if we win the series's ahead then we will likely make the moves needed. Its either you trade for guys like I mentioned or do some fire sales. There isn't any in between in a sense. I still believe they can get into the playoffs with a couple trades.

How?

In 2016, they refused to go after team friendly 1-year big league players and instead opted for trotting out one of the worst OF's in baseball on minor league deals.

If that's not giving up, I don't know what is.
They had their first round prospect ready in the minors, Cowgill was just a placeholder for Lonnie to come off the DL, Byrd hit 23hr's the year before and Brantley wasn't supposed to be on the DL the whole year. Different team situation with the Jose, Lindor, Bauer, contract window still wide open.

We still have everyone but Bauer (FA 2021), Martin (FA 2020 replaced by Mercado), Otero (FA 2021 Sandlin replaces him) and Kipnis (Option year 2020, FA 2021, Chang/Mathias here replacing him) O Perez (FA 2021) under team control for two more seasons after this one. I actually stated in the off season that 2020 is the year we will win it anyways, they will be better overall next season.

@Urban as well

That is why this woe to me fire sales isnt a good idea at the end of the day. We have everyone under control for next season and likely about the 100-120 mil mark. We will have a better team next season because we will have the young guys now, be a year older and more experienced and likely only Kipnis off the roster. I think we need to look at buying not selling this trade deadline since we still have a very good shot of making the playoffs even as a wild card and we still can put this team back out on the field next season as well.

I get we aren't playing well, but we also have been using unknowns and washed up players, going and getting a couple solid veteran hitters, i think would dramatically change around this roster and how things are going. If anything it would help with morale as well since the FO still believes they can win.

Naquin is a first round pick who was ready.

Leonys is a placeholder until Mercado is ready.

CarGo hit 16 HRs last year.

Same situation, they started the year with a different OF than they anticipated having at years end.

You falsely called this "giving up," I've correctly identified it as a trend or strategy.
