So Long, Mo Gotti Williams

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
One point that may be obvious but bears emphasizing is the fact the Cavs currently have Love and have his Bird rights and that's a nice asset. Windhorst recently said that 6 or 7 teams would be willing to offer Love a max contract. Maybe some saw this as bad news -- in that it means there is more competition for his services -- but I saw it differently. To me this means that Love will have multiple options, if he is for whatever reason hell-bent on getting out of Cleveland. This will also mean the teams interested in him may feel compelled to offer the full 5 year max contract via a sign and trade. This would give the Cavs a chance to get something for Love.

One idea is getting Jordan Hill ($9M team option for next year) and maybe a smaller piece like Wesley Johnson or Tarik Black, both of whom will be FA and could be included in a sign and trade. I'm sure there are better ideas.

If Love has his heart set on playing for the Lakers, and doesn't care about the 5th year and the full max contract, then of course he is free just to sign with the Lakers outright, but I can't imagine why he wouldn't want to maximize what he can get and why the Lakers wouldn't be willing to pay him.

And if he simply wants a one year deal to take advantage of the expanding cap in 2016, well, I don't know, but it seems unlikely he signs this type of contract with a team other than Cleveland. I know that LeBron did, but he's sort of unique.

The other tool to replace Love is the Haywood contract. The obvious option is a straight up deal of Haywood for David Lee (Cavs would have to add a small salary), since Golden St will presumably be motivated to clear money to re-sign Draymond.

Larger point though is that I agree the Cavs should be wary about spending money just because Gilbert can afford it.

Is he a free agent this off season?
In other words: Mo Williams safari? :chuckle:

Yes & Yes.

I think it's possible he'd accept the vet min.

We can offer him the Taxpayer's MLE, which is a good deal for both parties.

$9m/3 ($3m/yr) is a good deal for a 32-year old ringless PG to play on a championship contender.

Mo, if he can keep up his recent play, would be a great asset to our bench.

Almost the same salary as he received last year. I agree...but it would be nice if he accepted a hometown discount lol.

Lol..

With a lot of these guys though, Mar, they can't really take pay cuts.

Hell, look at Carmelo Anthony. By all accounts he wanted out of NYK, but couldn't afford to leave. That's crazy.

I mean, whe need a third pg badly...
But will he accept to play a minor role on this team? Maybe only 10-15 minutes a game?
That's the real question, imo.

Are you trying to tell me we're going to sign and trade TT to NYK along with Haywood's contract for Melo?? :alc:

Hahaha...

Not with Melo's contract and years, no. Phil would never let him go.

But I did call it, when everyone said I was nuts; that one of Love or Melo would be Cavaliers by the start of the season.

He's made over $60 mil over his career and Mo doesn't seem like the kind of guy that would blow through his money, but he did go from playing for a winning team to signing for the most money he could get with a poopy team.

So as much as I wish he would be willing to play for the minimum at this point, I think he's going to go for the highest bidder and I don't think our taxpayer's MLE will be enough.

I also would prefer to use that MLE to get a younger player like KJ McDaniels.

Ok.... For those so adamant in Love bolting, I'd like to list what I know as the facts relative to Love and his situation and I'll go it chronologically for the beginning in mini to the end at let's say the Lakers as a hypothetical.

1) Love is the man the superstar for the Wolves, gets more touches than Jerry Sandusky roaming Penn State showered in a night every game he plays.

2) Ego filled check. Compensated fairly? Not really. Taylor decides the extra year and super max goes to Rubio and along with WANTING to WIN, Love wants respected for his worth.

3) Love decides his ego in dropping 25 dimes a night and bring the go to guy simply is not worth the losing. Especially if after doing all this at an elite level gets him shunned for an unproven Rubio. Love now wants out.

4) once again to recap, ironically every thing that supports the very reasons assume he wants the first ticket out of Cleveland such as he doesn't fit right, he's a 3rd option instead of the to to option, his skills aren't being utilized to maximize his skillset,he doesn't take pictures in team charter flights... All these REASONS why people automatically assume Love is not happy he had in spades in Minnesota. He had friends there. He was the face of the franchise. He was the man and go to guy. He was utilized to the point if 35 ppg and 15 boards per night. AND GUESS WHAT?? NONE of these so called perceived problems that leads everyone Love is gone or non negotiable he seemingly needs to be happy lest we all forget Love had JUST OVER a year ago in Minny and none of those things that seemingly logic would tell you should have cemented him in Minny mattered when weighing winning and losings importance relative to these selfish overtures. If these factors are enough for him to bolt Cle less than one year, why didn't they keep him in Minnesota?

5) if all this logic holds true and is correct,Love made one hell of an expensive gamble on he wanting winning over self preservation and who driven wants/needs driven out of pride.

6) love all in one year, had everything in Minnesota he'll find out in Cleveland is all he wanted really in the first place, leaves Minny for Cleveland and sacra fixes his bird rights and just ask Carmello Anthonyaimolaf to last year when comparing the slam dunk non bird extension signing with the Bulls versus returning to the
