Tax Reform

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Bernie's plan is about the only plan I have to refute that has been suggested by liberals on this board. The goal here shouldn't be taking money away from rich people and giving it to the poor. The goal is for the economy to thrive, the US dollar to be the highest in the world and have more US dollars to go around to everyone.
Well, I can't speak for the others but I admittedly did not vote for Bernie in the primary. I love Bernie the person and I like a lot of his ideas on paper but some of them are ambitious and too surface level without substantial analysis to back up how they would operate successfully in the context of today's economy.

I think the part I like about this tax cut is it does cut taxes for the middle class and businesses which was needed. While I agree the rich over a half million a year warming have also got one, if and when the democrats get the White House and congress back we can see if they can offer more social programs without raising taxes on the middle class and get the revenue needed from the rich. IMO a couple making up to 300k a year are in the middle class depending on the state you live in.

What guys? No one else here is talking about inflation. And I'm certainly not a Republican. You don't understand how inflation works, or how a productive economy works, so you obviously won't understand why none of the nonsense any of them try to do to "fix" is going to do any good.

You were the one whining about the earnings gaps for the last 40 years. And I've pointed out here many times what happened right around that time to get the ball rolling. Freeing the dollar from it's gold restraints got the printing press running full steam ahead, and the effect of inflation is always to steal from the working class to the benefit of those that control the new money.
That's all well and good and I appreciate your interpretation. However, you're talking about a systemic issue that has been in place for generations. Surely, changing that would take a lot more effort than passing tax reform.

I'm also not sure how adding to that earnings disparity via tax cuts will ultimately make it better.

Changing it won't happen until the dollar crashes for good, and even then they'll just move to a global currency that they print at will.

Nevertheless, cutting taxes on the wealthy won't affect the disparity at all. Just like Obama raising taxes on the wealthy didn't affect the disparity at all.

President Donald Trump signed tax cut legislation on Friday, the most significant piece of legislation since he took office.
The president allowed the White House press pool to witness the event after he announced his decision on Twitter.

Trump told reporters that he was going to wait until January to sign the bill, but that he was intent on keeping his promise to the American people to sign it by Christmas.

“I watched the news this morning and they were all saying, ‘Will he keep his promise, will he sign it by Christmas?’ … and I called downstairs and said, ‘Get it ready, we have to sign it now,'” Trump said.

“This is something I’m very proud of,” Trump said. “Great for our country. Great for the American people.”

After signing the bill, Trump offered the pens to members of the press in the room.

“I want to wish you a very Merry Christmas,” he said, and added, “Many of you have worked very hard. Many of you have worked very, very fairly and we really appreciate that,” he said.

The president boarded Marine One after the signing event, traveling to Mar-a-lago for Christmas.

While not the biggest tax cut in history, White House staff argues that the tax cuts together with the tax reforms make it the most significant tax policy bill in the history of the United States.

The bill signing was delayed a few days, as Congress had to pass a government funding bill which included a waiver of the pay-as-you-go budgetary rules.

Since Congress included the waivers in their year-end government funding bill, Trump could sign the bill in 2017, allowing many of the tax cuts to take effect by next year.

The president spent most of the morning praising the tax bill and his year-end accomplishments but appeared frustrated that the media was not giving him enough credit.

This whole debate is kind of weird. Democrats opposed this bill as if it were a repeal of Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, all wrapped up in one. And at least some of them know that most Americans are going to get a tax cut out of it, so normally, it's not something that would result in unanimous opposition.

I honestly think much of the rage against this bill is targeted against Trump and the GOP actually passing a bill that may end up being popular (the wildly popular Reagan tax cuts were also viewed very negatively when first passed because of the press coverage/rhetoric). They didn't want Trump to have any legislative success so they could argue "failed Presidency that accomplished nothing."

A vote in favor of this bill would be spun as a vote supporting Trump, and that's politically untenable for Democrats. So, they fought against it.

This Administration has had lots of failures and fumble the ball a lot. The President is an arrogant, blustering sycophant who is pretty embarrassing in his demeanor. However, I've always loved supply-side economics and this tax reform is one of the best things I've seen in the last 16 years for the economy.

I hate Trump, still would love to see him go away.

That said, this tax bill is actually pretty good. Its not perfect, but has allot less holes than for example, affordable care act.
I will go back to bashing Trump, he deserves it. The stupid repeal of the tax incentive to get insurance for example was pointless and just petty. But I will remain impartial and give credit where do. Do I think this was Trump? No, it was Republicans writing this bill, some i really dont like, but this is a 90% make sense tax bill, not a bad percentage when it comes down to it.

As more of a left leaner...I will take my extra money. K thanks.

The reform of corporate taxes is pretty huge. Long overdue, and rather amazing that it actually happened. It's probably the single most important thing that has been done economically for a few decades.
