Terry Rozier

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I didn't know this kid was from Cleveland.

Either the PG position in this draft is overrated or its very deep and we will have a good option for us at 24 if we want to go that route.

Obviously Rusell, Mudiay, and Payne are out of the picture, but beyond that, there is a lot of gridlock with Tyus Jones, Jerian Grant, Delon Wright & Terry Rozier

I listen to basketball insiders podcast with Alex Kennedy and Cody Toppert. Toppert talked about all the guys he worked out at ELEV8 Sports Institute. He raved about Rozier more than anyone else. He said Rozier has the highest floor of any of the second tier PGs and moves alot like damian lillard.

At worse he becomes Norris Cole at best he becomes a poor mans Steph.

I'd pick him, try to use the haywood alone on Gay and dunno what I would do with the MLE tbh, too much players in the rotation already.
Reason I would pick him is because the Cavs don't have a pick next year and it's better we draft a rookie that is able to contribute maximum in 2 years so 2018 is too long to wait and we need young talents.

Really hoping for this guy. Seems like someone who can fill the roll of playmaking guard, which this team badly needs off the bench. Fact that he's from the area is just gravy.

Not opposed to Delon but the biggest knock on him is that he can't shoot. We already have Delly as our defensive PG. We need one that can create for himself and score. Especially if Kyrie is down.

I'm one of the people who has stated that Wright needs to work on his shooting. However, Rozier needs to work on his shooting even more.

Last season Wright was the only perimeter threat for the Utes and faced constant double teams. He still shot 26 for 73 from outside for a .356 percentage. He also .836 of his free throws. He has a good form on his shot, but needs to tighten up his mechanics, especially off the dribble.

Rozier made 48 of 157 three pointers for .306 from the outside. Obviously, he launched twice as many and didn't get a great percentage of them to fall. That is a shot selection issue. He made .790 of his free throws at nearly the same number of attempts which is average to not great for a lead guard.

As a playmaker, Wright has the clear advantage. He had far more assists - 178 compared to 108 - with less turnovers - 68 compared to 79. It's not a knock to say Wright is a more polished playmaker while clearly a little more advanced as an outside shooter.

The defense comes into play when you talk about Wright's ability to switch as a 6'5 point guard. I just can't justify Rozier over Wright, although Rozier could certainly develop into a solid backup point guard in the NBA.

For anyone who watches more college basketball than me: Has Rozier's height been a problem? From watching him play he seems to force shots the second he gets somewhat open and I am wondering does that have to do with him having an inability to shoot over taller defenders.

I have only watched him twice, so I could be totally off, just want some perspective.

From the eye test, Rozier's shot is a lot smoother though. But maybe you are right. I could concede that Wright is a better fit as a role player, but I think that is all his ceiling is. I think Rozier has much higher skill and could be a potential starting quality PG in the league some day.

But, I think Rozier is the bigger risk. Wright is a safer bet. I think Rozier has way higher upside, but also a much bigger floor. You pretty much know what you will get with Wright. With Delly on the team, I figured what the team could use is an offensive explosion from the bench at PG and Rozier can really get his own shot, which we haven't had when Kyrie is out.

But I'd be fine with either.

My biggest concern is that it feels like he will need to have the ball in his hands to be effective....same problem we had with Dion.

I feel like Wright can already do multiple things off the ball on both sides of the court that will help his team right away.

Well, isn't he projected as a PG? That's what they're supposed to be doing...

Defensively, we don't know if his height is an issue because Louisville played zone. Given his reach numbers, quickness, and jumping ability, I don't believe that height will be an issue.

Offensively, he can shoot although he can be streaky. I believe that his problem at Louisville was that many teams played zone against Louisville, and Harrell clogged the driving lanes. Without any other shooters on the team, Terry had many shots at the end of the clock. I think he can develop that step back jumper given his quickness and that would be a huge add.

So I don't think height will be a problem. I also think his speed and bounce will make him more effective in the NBA than he was in college.

Problem is we have enough players that need their hands on the ball. They need players that can play off the ball and be effective on both sides of the court.

As a freshman, Rozier played a lot off the ball with Russ Smith at point. He is still learning how to facilitate, IMO. I think there are more game ready options where the Cavaliers pick, but I wouldn't be surprised if 2-3 years down the road Rozier learns how to play the point well.

Draft Express has been putting out some Strength/Weakness videos they do for some of the lower first round guys in our range. They put some up for Rozier today.
