The Fiesta Bowl | #3 Ohio State vs. #2 Clemson | December 31st, 2016 @ 7 PM EST

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
OSU this year was a shell of last year. The offense was painfully unable to move the ball the last half of the season against Northwestern, MSU, etc. Take away Barrett's scramble and the short passing game to Samuel, and they were done. Barrett's accuracy is awful, especially deep, and the young OLine was bad. How many deep ball big plays did this team make after a few games into the season? Not many.

I expected a close loss tonight, but if they survived it then a blowout to Alabama. It just came a game early.

I'm really far more disappointed in the failure to get into the playoffs last year due to the atrocious play-calling, esp. in that MSU game. I think last year's team was so talented it would've won the nat'l championship.

We struggled to move the ball last year too (with NFL players all over the field). Before they scrapped everything and rode Zeke/OL against scUM and ND, it was painful to watch.

That tells everything you need to know about what the problem is, and it's not the talent, Barrett or the OLine.

Apparently Beck needs the 2001 Miami roster in order to succeed. NFL hall of famers all over the field on offense. NFL caliber players all over the field just isn't quite enough.

I'm with you all.

I'm not sure how throwing 5 yard crosses into zone coverage and not running the ball is a game plan.

Barret just wasn't up to the task..

The playcalling was bad last year and this year, and unfortunately that killed Cardale Jones' last season. After the Notre Dame game last year and the 2015 team's inexplicable struggles moving the ball given its talent, I was heartened that Urban said they'd be taking a hard look at the passing game. I thought that meant telling Beck to move on. Instead he brought him back. The Tulsa game came around and it was clear that things hadn't changed much... for me, I had pretty much given up on a Nat'l Championship by the time I saw the Northwestern and MSU games, where the offense simply couldn't move the ball against mediocre defenses.

That said, I can't buy this idea that it's all playcalling. The deep pass was a major part of OSU's 2014 arsenal and it was pretty much eliminated because Barrett was horrible throwing the deep ball. How many times were open receivers overthrown downfield this year? The guy can't throw a timing pattern with any consistency. His struggles are why defenses loaded the box so much. There were plenty of opportunities this year for him to make a big play downfield and he just couldn't do it.

Penn state looks like trash

Well once Trace McSorely completes a pass to someone in a Penn State jersey, this route might be on!

Congratulations. Your whole conference is an embarrassment.

Yo man, you're in an Ohio State thread doing this shit. You're the embarrassment.

Bro. You're the one who quoted my post to tell me how poorly your conference champion is playing.

On another note, I didn't realize Michael Thomas had an 1100 yard, 9 TD year with the Saints.

So that's the NFL offensive rookie of the year and likely NFL defensive rookie of the year, and then that from Thomas.

Yea, Tim Beck needs to go for being a major reason that squad didn't repeat last year.

The point. You're on a Cleveland fan site trolling the Ohio State thread. Fairly pathetic.

Goes to show, having a HOF qb throwing to you your rookie year can do wonders for development.
