Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Yeah, it was stupid of Trump to say that.

On the other hand, this is concrete evidence that he listens actually listens to his advisors, and has learned about/educated himself on issues since that time. So....yeah. Good for him.

Yeah.

Fantastic.

Yeah.

Fantastic.

So far, I'd take his foreign policy approach 100 times out of 100 over Obama's. And considering that Hillary wanted large scale boots on the ground and a no-fly zone in Syria, over hers as well.

Entire US Senate to Meet With Top Trump Officials Over North Korea

Top Trump administration officials will hold a rare briefing on Wednesday at the White House for the entire U.S. Senate on the situation in North Korea, senior Senate aides said on Monday, reports Reuters.

All 100 senators have been asked to the White House for the briefing by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and General Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the aides said, according to Reuters.

It’s not unusual for select groups of the legislative body to meet with the President, or White House staff, but meeting with the entire collective of Senators is. Not to mention that the Senate will be meeting with those four top officials.

U.S. officials have expressed mounting concern over North Korea’s nuclear and missile tests, and its threats to attack the United States and its Asian allies, said Reuters.

The briefing will take place at 3 p.m. ET. House aides have also said they were working with the White House to set a similar briefing for members of the House of Representatives, reports Reuters.

I'm not sure if this is a prelude to something big, or part of a saber-rattling campaign. But I like not knowing.

Well, it was nice knowing you all. Hopefully NORK guidance systems are spot on and I get vaporized straight away.

Or they'll do us all a favor and be off the mark and only hit Vashon Island.

Pretty low bar.

Pretty low bar.

Oh hell yes -- no argument there. But all I can do at this point is measure the guy against 1) the November alternative, and 2) what the expectations were for him when he took office. And with respect ot the latter in particular, I remember people being generally pleased with his National Security choices, but very worried that he'd just follow his own lead and not listen to them. Heck, I was worried about that.

It seems, though, as if he is listening to those guys for the most part. And to be honest, I really like some of the things he's done in that regard a lot more than I thought he would.

My primary concerns with him are not partisan. The man himself is singularly unfit for the office and it has little to do with his politics. So while I agree his advisors are doing their jobs, ultimately he is the POTUS and his horrific shortcomings (dude is as dumb as a box of rocks and has the intellectual curiosity of a gold fish) and mental illness leaves the door open for utter catastrophe at any given moment.

If that is your view, then none of these stories move the needle at all for you anyway - the conclusion/opinion is already set.

While i also don't like some of the things he's said, I view it as him putting his mouth in gear too soon, not as him being literally deranged and likely to authorize wacked-out actions.

Having dealt with someone with high-grade NPD for years, it is difficult for me to see Trump doing exactly what someone with that condition would do and feel good about it.

The problem with people like him is that they can't help themselves. So what you see as him opening his mouth too soon I see as pathological behavior that no one can prevent him from acting on (though many are trying). Maybe @Hydroponic3385 can elaborate more on this.

As for my opinion on policy, that varies.

Stannis, do you follow the Jester at all on twitter? Seems like you have a lot in common with that guy.

I think I will start.

Most reputable shrinks would never diagnose a guy without actually meeting him. His public persona may be significantly different than how he behaves when cameras are not rolling. And I don't think anyone as deranged as some suggest could ever have been that successful in business. If he's nutty enough to start dropping nukes for fun, his businesses would have completely imploded long ago.

But they did. Thrice.

I digress. We are leaving the scope of the subject.

So, Afghanistan. Boy did we fuck that up. First Bush, then Obama. What it must be like to have a militarily competent POTUS.

Edit: Yeah, I've gone through the hell of raging NPD long enough to know what is acting and what isn't. He ain't acting and from what I have read about people who worked closely with him, his public persona is actually him toning it down a bit. He is a lot worse (see unending mental abuse, exceptionally controlling, supremely selfish, pathological lying,* obsessive-compulsive behavior, especially toward those he deems as having betrayed him, fixating on destroying people who insults him, etc., etc.) in private.

*They actually come to believe their own lies and the truth changes in their minds.
