The next star or super star safari.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I was saying it a lot in S34 with @MirORich @gourimoko and @Rich but, I really think Eric Bledsoe is a guy the Cavs should target. It would probably take a three-team deal with TT leaving Cleveland, yet I still think it is worth it. Bledsoe would allow LeBron to play 40 minutes per game without our entire team going to absolute shit. He's a great facilitator, good ball handler, good shooter, good rebounder, and good defender. He has played at a near all-star level since 2013-14, and frankly, probably would have been one had he been on a better team.

If Phoenix can get Ball or Fox at #4, they absolutely will look to trade Bledsoe, and I think they Cavs have to consider capitalizing.

Sure, Bledsoe wouldn't start, but he would play 25-35 minutes per game. If you remember the year Phoenix almost made the playoffs under Hornacek, Bledsoe played off-ball a lot with Dragic being the de-facto point guard. He moves a lot without the ball, can make the extra pass, and shoot the three. Furthermore, he's obviously good on-ball.

I really think we need a 6th man point guard for when LeBron sits. I think Bledsoe is by far the best choice, and frankly, he makes an enormous difference. Bledsoe allows us to avoid the LeBron-rest run that GSW went on in games 3 and 5. That totally changes the series.

It'll be hard, and he's no PG13, but I think it's a realistic move that would improve our team.

Trade for Melo and get PG next year as a FA?

We wouldn't have the cap space. Have to trade for any big improvements.

Offseason to do:

Try to buy a second round pick and take an athletic wing
Kick tires on PG and JB for Love
Kick tires on Melo for scraps
Try to use a trade expection for a young wing like Rondae-Hollis Jefferson (unlikely, but Brooklyn)
Re-sign Korver
Work a deal for Cedi Osman
See if Bogut will take a vet min
See if DWill x 2 will come on the cheap

I don't think it's impossible to run out this team:

Kyrie
Paul George
Melo
Lebron
TT

with a bench of
JR
Korver
Osman
Bogut
DWill x 2

(It's unlikely tho)

Melo has negative value. He is a declining player w a perceived attitude problem on a MASSIVE, bloated contract

NYK are going to have to give something to someone to move him

Agreed. I would trade Love for Carmelo and the Knicks lottery pick.

That's rich! You can always ask, but I doubt you're getting that.

Of course it is; and I agree they'd likely say no.

But why would I trade Love for Melo an the 8th pick?

I guess the point here is that there is no framework that I know of that would see Love being traded for a 34-year old Carmelo Anthony being owed $50M being the bulk of the return. Including the 8th pick in the draft, IMHO, doesn't really move the needle sufficiently to ignore the obvious disparity in this deal.

Love and Cedi for Melo and Porzingis. Don't think NY would go for it, but who the hell knows. Jackson has done some crazy shit.

There are maybe 5 guys in the league that get Porzingis ...Love isn't one of them not to mention you this we get Melo too... Also Love shouldnt be mentioned in any deal for Melo... PG and JB that's about it

Who is JB??

Here's my first crack at adding Bledsoe plus a wing:

This operates under the presumption that PHX somehow gets Fox or Ball at #4. Immediately after that happens Rich Paul gets on the phone and demands a trade to Cleveland for his player Bledsoe. We trade PHX Shump, RJ, and a future 1st for Bledsoe.

We then get on the phone with Denver. Frye and the rights to Cedi for Wilson Chandler.

To make it work cap wise, it has to be a three team deal with some minimum salary guys trading places in PHX and DEN.

IN: Eric Bledsoe, Wilson Chandler
OUT: Shump, Frye, RJ, rights to Cedi, future protected 1st

Our bench would then be Bledsoe, Korver, Chandler, hopefully Derrick Williams and a PF/C signed for vet min or taxpayer MLE(best case scenario Nene)

Thats a far better bench than this years and more importantly has a playmaker who can score, facilitate, and defend in Bledsoe

Man, from a basketball perspective, this is absolutely something I can get behind.

From a locker room perspective... it would be tough to lose Frye and RJ.

For sure, but Bledsoe and Chandler both should have at least three years of prime play and are upgrades in talent over the three outgoing from the current roster. Team has already shown they won't play Frye against GS and Jefferson has one year left, if that even, to be able to compete against GS

In that scenario, you also still have TT to either hold on to(proves year in, year out to be crucial in the EC playoffs) or trade

Edit: Another variation of this trade scenario would be to attempt to move Frye/Cedi to Portland for Moe Harkless.

Love for Melo + #8 alone doesn't make sense and makes us worse, unless then the #8 turns out to be PG. BUT I don't see NYK giving #8 for Love.
