The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread (includes spoilers)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Those would seem to be incredibly important facts to be laying around for just anyone to discover.

Yes but also the whole hiding in plain sight. The show differs from the books. I think since sam went to old town and the record of Jorah wasn't there.

In addition old towns Library is huge. Things could get "lost"

Who would have put Jon's parentage into Oldtown, and why? Ned considered it a complete secret of the highest priority.

I was going to respond with pretty much the same question but you beat me to it. :chuckle:

I think it's more likely that Sam finds the secret to making Valyrian steel or some way to fight the white walkers in Oldtown. There's obviously a reason he's there, but I doubt it has anything directly to do with Jon (unless it's some secret about Azor Ahai, which presumably is Jon).

Jon's parentage will almost undoubtedly be revealed by Howland Reed.

Yeah, could be almost anything. Should be interesting, though, because there's got to be a good reason GRRM sent him there in the first place.

Has he been cast?

The most likely alternative other than Howland Reed to do the big reveal is Bran. I mean, it wouldn't take a rocket scientist for Bran to figure that out, and there has to be some reason for him to see that particular vision. He's also headed south, and where else is he going to go, but to Winterfell, and to Jon?

Oh yeah, I forgot that Bran knows now too on the show and is heading back south. You may be right in that case.

I don't know if Reed has been cast or not. In the books at least he seems like the obvious source of Jon finding out given that Bran doesn't seem likely to be heading back south any time soon.

I believe it was Amon Targaryan being a maester and a member of the nights watch I think he knew about Lyana and Rhaegar but since he was a Member of the Night's watch he kept secret

How would he have known? He was up at the Wall during all those events, and only two people survived at the Tower of Joy -- Ned, and Howland Reed. Neither of them talked.

Here's the the thing about making valyrian steel....what if that process is what caused the doom? Ive always assumed the two were linked.

Reading through the Dunk and Egg stories for the first time, and boy, are they good. I'm hooked. After a slow start I've been blistering through the pages and am on the last story (or I think it is).

I mean, after GoT, it'd be silly not to consider this for some sort of adaptation.

For the book Stannis it make sense. His lamenting Renly and such. Out of place for Dillane's Stannis.

Gods, the show butchered the character. Though Dillane is amazing in the role.

Yeah, the only person I could think of who more matched the character from the books was Mark Strong, but to be fair he was basically who I pictured when I read the books (which was before the show came out). Dillane did an excellent job with what he was given, and he did fit the part well. His real life personality seems to mirror Stannis' as well. I've watched the blu-rays with commentary and basically every description of him is that he's basically all business.

The people who play Melisandre and Davos are fucking hilarious though. They seem like they'd be fun to party with.

I've seen interviews of Stephen Dillane and I think his Stannis is just everyday Dillane. He is mercurial and quite grumpy. He was great in the HBO mini-series John Adams as Thomas Jefferson (you even see him smile a couple times).

The Melisandre at a baby shower skit on Seth Meyers was hilarious. I also have a feeling the Onion Knight will outlast everyone. Why Liam Cunningham wasn't nominated for an Emmy for Season Six I don't know. His speech about Shireen when confronting Melisandre was fucking heartbreaking.

The commentary by Cunningham and van Houten on the shadow baby episode of Game of Thrones is by far the funniest commentary I've ever watched. There's an amazing bit where Cunningham talks about how she showed him her tits and he thought it was a prosthetic. So great.
