I doubt that the mental state is a choice. But whether they choose to live as a man or woman is obviously a choice. And I agree...it doesn't affect me in any way whatsoever, I don't care.

I defer to the trannies and people who study this. I'd honestly like to talk to a tranny and learn more about it. I don't know enough about it, super complex.

I live in a Chinese household surrounded by Chinese neighbors. I'm putting my foot down and saying i'm Chinese now.

You should check again; I've cited the DSM-V about 50 times in this thread and others. If you're not sure about it, you can refer to the APA's writeup on the changes from the DSM-IV and the DSM-V. But being transgendered is not a mental disorder in and of itself and this was specifically changed in the DSM-V.

I don't need empathy. I have my pre-conceived notions that I will cling onto even in the face of all evidence to the contrary. Moreover, I will refuse to acknowledge the contributions of subject matter experts and science, even though I have no idea what I am talking about, because it is inconvenient. I do this so I can continue to make fun of people without feeling bad about myself in a consequence free environment. It is actually the only reason I even care about the issue: The freedom to continue to mock people.

What they would like you to think is that they are nice, wholesome, generally blue-collar people, who were betrayed by Liberals who took all their jobs and shipped them overseas (like that Reagan and Bush). To compound this betrayal, their plight is ignored because the MSM will only talk about whiny minorities, women, gays, trans, pan-sexual service animals etc., etc. But, blue-collar maven Donald J. Trump will bring back all the coal and steel jobs.

But, in reality it is more a case of this:

Instead of retraining, voting in politicians who support affordable education to underwrite retraining into the new economy, they just blame everyone else for their problems and elect folks who validate their feelings of anger and do nothing for them. For 40 years.
