Yeah, I'm guessing they hope he wins and then oust him...not saying I agree with it.

They made a bad tactical error by backing him yesterday. He may well have won anyway, but win or lose, the GOP now looks bad.

Trump Endorsed him first. At least officially. Once he did that The GOP had two options. Back him now and ride Trumps wave or don't back him, let hm win anyway which was always a high possibility, then you get Roy Moore in The Senate with support from Bannon and Trump but not The GOP. They fell in line.

I would hope nobody who considers themselves moral supports that strategy.
Either they believe him guilty and are willing to finance and support a pedo for political advantage...
Or they believe him innocent and are willing, post election, to throw him and the voters of Alabama under the bus for political appearances.
Giving the GOP more power is like buying your Uber driver a Long Island Iced Tea.

Problem with this is even if Ivey assigns someone to Sessions seat for the rest of his term (I think she's allowed to do this without another primary), Moore could just run again, and win again.

It's been done before

A couple reasons.

1) I don't think these are resignation worthy allegations. 2) I think the Democrats are pushing this now because they believe Roy Moore will win his election and they want to look like they're taking the moral high ground. Just a few days ago they were fine with him staying in the Senate. It looks politically motivated instead of being motivated by principles.

It's not a beauty contest where you win a title and there are no real-world consequences. It's electing someone to a position of significant power, and I want neither Doug Jones nor Roy Moore in that position for the next five years.

Best chance not to have that happen is to elect Moore, force him out, then have a do-over next November.

It's 3 years. And they turned the heat up on Franken cause a couple more accusers showed up, the volume did him in

They can indeed either refuse to seat Moore, or kick him out. I believe it takes 60 votes.

But yes, they can expel Moore, and then the governor of Alabama would appoint a new senator to serve the balance of the term which ends in 2020 I believe. So, they can eat their cake and have it to.

However, as you point out, POTUS and the RNC supporting him now, after initially retracting support, will really hurt them next year. With the Dems accused of sexual indecency stepping aside, the GOP leaves themselves open to attack next year on the issue of sexual harassment and assault. Moreover, given how heinous the crimes Moore is accused of in relation to the others, their support paints the GOP in the worst possible light.

I just don't see how that strategy jives with giving Bill free reign on the campaign trail in 2016.

I know a lot of the more leaning left posters here don't like the Clintons, so peace, but Bill was a major part of the Presidential run.

The skeptical side of nearly everyone says.....Conyers gets replaced by a democrat and the guy is 88. GTFO.

Franken is in a more liberal state and his seat isn't really at risk....GTFO.

Now take the high road and paint Republicans as Pedo champions.

It's politics.....the whole thing is a huge circle jerk (pardon the pun).

Two things can be true. It can be move that is motived by principles that happens to be timely which makes it look politically motivated.

Why were they okay with him keeping his seat a few days ago, and then after Moore has a big and successful rally they want him gone?
