The President misquoting one of the most recognizable speeches in U.S. history is next level.

I'm glad you asked that.

Yes, I think it's cool for them to do that.

To me, the line is whether or not the business is entirely privately-owned and operated, and whether said business provides direct access to life/health.

An orthodontist should not be able to discriminate based on these things, for example. Doctors all take an oath to serve as well. That last bit is where the gray area in my position lies.

Things like generic goods and services (like this cake thing), however, I think the business owner can choose to serve or not serve whomever he or she pleases, period. Let society and the market rule over said business's success or failure.

I think there is a difference between barring someone from purchasing off the shelf items that are for sale to anyone, and requiring someone to make a custom item or service that reflects some degree of creative input. The baker in the Supreme Court case is willing to bake and frost, etc., a cake for a gay wedding. Where he draws the line what he is willing to write on the cake.

I think the whole cake thing is stupid. Just bake the damn thing. Some of the cakes they're baking are for weddings for people who have been divorced, others are for people who have had premarital sex. Those are both sins, but I doubt they're refusing service for those individuals. Just the gay ones.

Cool for Muslim bakers to turn away Christians? Just wondering where the line is. Isn't that the problem?

I don't think it is cool for Muslim bakers to refuse to sell a cake to Christians.

I do think it is cool if Muslim bakers refuse to write "Jesus Saves" on the cake.

Big if true.

The exclamation point is weird/disrespectful. Makes it seem like he thinks infamy is a good thing.

Roy Moore is a pedophile! See how that works? Looks exciting

Can someone explain the Jerusalem deal in more depth. Most of the articles I've read don't give a lot of the context I'm
looking for....

Such as:

Why was our embassy placed in Tel Aviv to begin with if everyone mostly acknowledges Jerusalem as the capital?

Why does this cause so much consternation, internationally, that we are now moving our embassy there?

Are a majority of Jewish folks in support of this move? Jewish Democrats? Just curious how they view it...

Any info would be appreciated....just not well versed on the subject.

Eh...no one voted for this guy bc of his grammar ability....

It is one of those issues that is supported in the abstract by many, but there is a lot of concern that it would be inflammatory in practice. So basically, many people speak out of both sides of their mouth. It is controversial even among Jews.

For what it is worth, both Mattis and Kelly oppose moving the embassy there for that reason.

The only potential "plus" I can see is from a negotiation perspective. Yes, it will tick off Palestinians. But it does put another trading chip on the table.

It's not a terrible tactic from that perspective. If negotiations are going nowhere, upsetting the table is one way to try to restart things.

Ya gotta say the whole thing though:

The guy us a buffoon who likes 2 scoops of ice cream but not brown people.

I'm glad you asked that.

I'll ask again not out of judgment but curiosity on your consistency here, are you fine with businesses discriminating based on race?

Yep. As long as it still fits within what I said before about being entirely privately owned/operated, and not denying health-based services.

I don't think anyone is gonna argue, especially looking at the way Bill was handled, that the Dems are a shining beacon of morality.

However, we are seeing Conyers and Franken step down while the GOP is currently unwilling to take out their trash. Feel free to point to instances of the DNC showing a lack of spine or moral fortitude, they deserve to have their flaws exposed. But it's ridiculous to say that these shortcomings are reason to CONTINUE this behavior and forego dealing with Moore and Trump. That's essentially saying "both sides do it, so we shouldn't bother doing better, politics can come first." Gross.

Why was our embassy placed in Tel Aviv to begin with if everyone mostly acknowledges Jerusalem as the capital?

Bill, no country on Earth acknowledges Jerusalem as the capitol of Israel; this is and has always been under dispute. Ask yourself why you think "everyone mostly acknowledges" something that no nation acknowledges?

Why does this cause so much consternation, internationally, that we are now moving our embassy there?

Because the United States was, until yesterday, the active peace broker. Now the United States has unilaterally decided that Jerusalem (in its entirety) belongs to the Israelis. The Palestinians will now no longer work with the U.S., since the U.S. is no longer acting in good faith.

This also means the likely end to any Two-State Solution; which, has been the proposed solution for the past several decades.

It's an upheaval of the peace process and any negotiations based around partitioning the city have pretty much gone out the window.

Are a majority of Jewish folks in support of this move? Jewish Democrats? Just curious how they view it...

I don't know of many polls, but my guess would be that Jewish folks would be pretty divided on the topic.

Any info would be appreciated....just not well versed on the subject.

That's cool.
