In all seriousness, wasn't wasteful spending one of Trump's things?

And I know it's been brought up before, but I guess we're all just cool now with him raking in money hand over fist every time he visits Mar-A-Lago? Just because we don't talk about it anymore doesn't mean it's not happening.
The Obamas got pretty rich in the White House, so did the Clintons. Using the office to get rich isn't something new. Is it only a problem now because it's Trump doing it?

If you look at the article, all but one million of that came from Obama's regular salary and the two books he published. Pretty different from how Trump's monetizing the presidency (though honestly, this kind of thing is still way down the list of things that make me dislike Trump).

I didn't have a problem with Obama making outside money. I just think it's a silly thing to be upset with Trump for if he isn't promoting policies in office to specifically help his businesses.

It's a bigger problem that Trump has taken no initiative to report it, claiming it's impossible.

Which, yes, is shady as fuck.

But by all means, continue this endless thread of whataboutisms.
It's not an endless thread of "whataboutisms." When people debate and discuss topics they often draw from similar situations to make points. Trump isn't the first president to enrich himself in office, so I ask why the sudden outrage?

I've already answered your question.

He has zero interest in reporting monetary gains, as shell corporations are free to buy influence with the President.

It's not something that's done, and why it's a problem now.

What statutes or policies is he violating by doing this?

I think it's the sheer scale of things that's disturbing, as well as the avenues Trump is using (pointed out by AZ).

According to the article you linked, Obama made a little under 2M/year in that span, again, mostly from salary and book publications. That's probably similar to what he could've earned working for a private law firm in that time (correct me if I'm wrong).

We'll never know, that's sort of the point.

Does something have to be against the law to be wrong?
"Wrong" is subjective, legality is not. I'm not interested in judging Trump on "morality" because that's different for all of us.

Where does buckets of money being funneled to Trump corporations through shell companies trying to buy influence fall on the scale of morality?
No offense man, but this sounds like your spin on what is happening, which may or may not be entirely accurate. Where have you gotten your information about what is going on? I'm genuinely curious to read it, I haven't read much about this topic.

Here's an okay place to start:

Perhaps if he didn't make such a big deal about giving back the money from foreign governments, before then saying it's impossible to track that money so 'fuck it.'

In any event, it's shady, and worth having a light shined on it.
