The Walking Dead

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I've tried watching before. All I can think of is how quickly ex-military people would rule this world inside a month. Then again, there wouldn't be a show.

These people have to be fucking stupid to draw the series out so long.

I always loved how World War Z showcased the failures of the military to contain a zombie threat because they rely so much on reducing enemy morale, which didn't work at all against a horde of mindless zombies who just keep coming regardless of what is thrown against them.

The book, obviously. The movie was enjoyable but might as well have been a different story.

Bleh. I'm the show's biggest apologist on the board, and I have no issues saying that this was easily the worst season of the show's existence. Not even for a lack of killing off main characters.

Glenn, Abraham, Sasha, and Spencer were all considered "main" characters.

Too much filler. The Tara/Heath bullshit episode in the first half easily could've been cut into 30 minutes with another plot in the same episode. Too much build-up, although I didn't expect the war to start until next season.

Looking forward to S8 though. I'm expecting a bloodbath. I do hope the war is wrapped up by the midseason and then the Whisperers are around towards the finale of the second half.

There's no way that the war can go on for sixteen episodes without it being absolutely horrible.

My early predictions (pre-filming/spoilers):
Morgan, Tobin, Eric, Jerry, Arat, Junkyard bitch all go down at some point in the first 4-6 episodes. Morgan takes Nick's death from the comics. Rick gets shot by what is believed to be an infected arrow.

Midseason finale: Daryl dies. Eugene betrays Negan. Kingdom, Hilltop, and Alexandria defeats Junkyard people and the Saviors. Negan breaks Rick's leg, crippling him. Negan is imprisoned. Simon survives and becomes the de facto leader of the Saviors once Dwight joins Rick's crew full time.

Midseason premiere: 18 months pass. Magna and Dante are introduced as major characters. Rick is Alexandria's leader. Maggie is Hilltop's leader. Dwight/Simon struggle for control of the remaining Saviors. Ezekiel and Carol run the Kingdom. Whisperers teased as the group prepares for the fair.

Sometime between midseason premiere and finale: Gregory tries to assassinate Maggie. He is unsuccessful and hung by Maggie and Jesus for treason, causing a struggle between the Hilltop (Maggie) and Alexandria (Rick). Carl kills two boys attempting to attack Lydia (whisperer girl) which causes an issue when Rick won't exile him.

Midseason finale: Whisperers attack during the fair. Rick, Michonne, Carl, Lydia, and Tara stumble across the heads on pikes; including Ezekiel and Rosita. Rick announces that they're going to war against the Whisperers.

Negan escaping and decapitating Alpha would probably be a good thing for season 9.

Never read the book, but yeah, much of winning a battle is making the enemy run away. You remove that and you have to kill everyone which is laborious and takes time (think Okinawa and Iwo Jima).

Tanks. None of these films ever have tanks. Zombies are no match for tanks.

Don't even need to shoot at them. Just form up on line and run them over.

I'm glad to see plenty of you having the same issues I had with the gun fight. The whole action scene was a complete mess that made no sense at all. I've been trying to stay with this show all season even though it's felt like it's gone so far downhill. I think that's it for me though, if these are the sort of episodes that are meant to be major ones it's just not worth sticking with anymore. The mid season finale at least restored some hope that things were going to get really interesting, but it has muddled through the past 7 episodes and lead up to this... and how underwhelming it is.

WWZ - the book - deliberately made the military (actually, the Army) act stupidly because Brooks wanted it to be a commentary on government stupidity. The Army was completely unaware -- midway through a zombie apocalypse - that headshots were required, even though cops and everyone else knew that. And rather than put troops on elevated buildings, they had them dig in on the ground in fighting holes, etc.. It was like someone jammed every bad military cliché into a single book. He made the Marines fight more intelligently, which annoyed even me because it was so ham-handed.

Although in a zombie apocalypse, that's not an option, and the military would have had that figured out pretty quickly. But if you're fighting an enemy that is slow moving, mindless, and can't shoot, it would be a walkover. You wouldn't have to dig them out -- they'd just shamble right up to you to be shot.

Tanks. None of these films ever have tanks. Zombies are no match for tanks. Don't even need to shoot at them. Just form up on line and run them over.

Works in some terrain, does not work in others. And there just aren't enough tanks to be everywhere the zombies are anyway. The way to kill them in TWD, or in the book version of World War Z (slow-moving zombies) is simply to elevate rifleman off the ground where they can't be reached, and plug away at close distances. A decently trained infantryman would be able to kill hundreds per day, easily.

Anyway, a much more realistic look about the military fighting zombies is Tooth and Nail. It's about an army company trying to defend a hospital in New York, and was pretty well-done. Even then, they had to use some artificialities to make it a fight.

The real challenge in a zombie apocalypse wouldn't be the fighting -- it would be what happened if normal supplies stopped flowing after a few days. No more food being trucked in to urban areas, etc.. If people all panicked and stayed home, essentially services would collapse. You'd need farmer, truckers, food processors, road maintenance, gas stations, etc., etc., all to keep functioning.

So i still have yet to watch this past season since the first episode but plan on binging here soon. How would you rate this season compared to past seasons?

If it feels like the same rehash of story lines with a new bad guy, i might just be done with show altogether. Was a big fan but started to lose interest during season 6.

This show basically died for me once they made the Negan kill a cliffhanger last season.

Then once people complained, the showrunners took it as a complaint that the show "was too violent."

Anyways this was probably the worst season. I mean when I think back to what happened after Glenn and Abe were killed I pretty much can't tell you.

Also this show needs to stop romanticizing and making huge deals out of minor character deaths.

The show's blueprint is just too predictable. Death...a bunch of shitty one character episodes... kinda get our shit together.....a bunch of shitty one character episodes.... overrated death/or cliffhanger.

I'd say it was the worst season except for Season 2, where they spent almost the entire time at the farm. Maybe worse.

The biggest problem I see is that the writers are too reverential to the cast. It's like they don't want to kill anyone anymore unless they first focus on that person for a couple of episodes. So it never comes as much of a surprise anymore.

Deaths should be satisfying for viewers, not the actors.

Ya this show has kinda gotten really stale for me..

I can't believe that I am finally accepting that, but its true. Now I just watch this show on my DVR while using my laptop and surfing the web at the same time. I'll only stop to pay attention when there is something important happening...and thats very far a few between.

That's kind of where I am. I still enjoy the show compared to what else is out there, and still look forward to it. I just don't think it is as good.

I do think it can be fixed, though, and fairly easily. But they need to depart in a big way from what I've read about the comics. I think the number of people willing to read a comic that does not present a long-term goal/destination is much smaller than the number of people needed to keep the show on the air with decent production values.

The first five seasons had a lot of location changes -- the initial town, Atlanta, the camp, Hershel's Farm, the prison, Alexandria, mixed in with a lot of episodes where they were on the road.

Since the end of season five, they've basically been in the same geographic area, and that looks to be true for next season at least.

It just gets stale, even if other locations are woven in as part of the story. Maybe the war can change that, but after that....they really need to get moving again or the show will peter out. Without any suggestion of actual progress/hope, people just won't stick with it.

It's the same shit every year. Hope of something good that ends in a cliffhanger to entice people to come back to the show... These awful writers need to stop being predictable and forcing things to be an entire season. This finale was basically a compilation of the entire season. Lots of fluff that just ended in disappointment. Also, why are these garbage people speaking like cavemen? I can tell most of them are inbred hicks but some of them look like they were normal people. And even inbred hicks should be able to form semi-coherent sentences... Gimple is a moron.

The batlle was time lapsed. . I enjoyed this season.

Oops, sorry guys. Wrong thread. I saw the title and thought it was a thread about the current state of the Cavs.
