Also downloaded Warframe at the constant urging of one of my friends who has been neglecting TF2 for that cyborg ninja game and...it's actually quite fun. I had always thought Warframe was a competitive shooter, and I really only have time for one of those in my life (TF2, obviously). I didn't realize that it was basically Destiny, and that PVE was a huge and majority part of the experience. In fact, playing it, it actually appears that Bungie borrowed a lot of ideas from it, or perhaps Warframe adapted to borrow elements from Destiny over time. Warframe came out a year before, but I'm really not sure how much it has changed since day one since I just now started playing it.

Still, it's basically F2P Destiny with cyborg ninjas, which surprised me. All I know is that I've got a bow and arrow with a 40% damage mod and I am stealthily tearing through levels destroying everything in my path. The game looks pretty good too, especially for a game that came out in 2013. Likely they've updated the visuals a bit over time, but still. I've only played it for a couple of hours, but it's been enjoyable thus far, and I've had my buddy explaining all the intricacies to me, which has been helpful since there's a lot to take in.

    ---

I don't know...it's just hard for me to see a melee-only game as worth sixty bucks, especially since past games of a similar style (War of the Roses, Chivalry) launched at much lower price points. For Honor is certainly prettier than those games, but graphics alone do not justify a price tag. I will say that it runs very well, which in this age of shoddy PC ports was refreshing. My computer is by no means a beast by modern standards, and the game defaulted to Extreme (the second-highest graphical setting) and rarely dropped below 40 fps (seemed to average closer to sixty most of the time, although it dipped a bit when a lot was going on). That may not be good enough for @TyGuy, but it works for me.

And for the record, I probably wouldn't have noticed the frame rate dips, but the game displays your frame rate at the top left, presumably for beta purposes, so I actually paid attention to it.

I had fun playing Warframe, but it grew old very quickly. Way too much grinding playing the same levels over and over again for my liking. The combat was super fun though.

I've been watching a YouTube playthrough of Uncharted 4 and one thing really sticks out for me. The bad guy apparently has enough money to buy up half the land in Scotland and to hire a massive private army (that Sully mentions was paid up front) and deploy them throughout the world. It doesn't seem like he even really needs the pirate treasure he's so obsessed with finding.

I'm fairly certain that Uncharted 4 tossed in a Monkey Island reference. There's a part where Drake has to solve a puzzle involving the sigils of various pirates, and they never figure out who the monkey sigil belongs to, and the guy in the portrait is a dead ringer for Guybrush Threepwood. They even say he looks a little young for a pirate.

You were right. After playing it a bit more on Saturday night, there was obviously a lot of depth there. I also wasn't aware that the game had a single-player story mode, which is kind of cool even if it's largely just the multi-player game with bots and occasional cut-scenes. It initially came off as mostly a button-masher, but playing against real people opened my eyes to what was possible with the combat system.

That said, I didn't feel like paying cash money for it, so I just liquidated my TF2 inventory and bought it that way. Finally sold off my strange killstreak huntsman that had 50,000 kills registered to it. Sad day, but after that many kills there's really not much more of a point you can make. I already know I'm a huntsman god. Don't need the kill counter to validate it. :chuckle:

Didn't get to play it much last night due to Valentine's Day and plans with the girlfriend, but I did log an hour or so after she fell asleep. The single-player isn't anything special, but the story is at least interesting (if the premise is a bit dumb) and the writing is fine, although why the knights have American accents is beyond me since they are obviously descended from Europeans. Whatever. I've played four missions thus far and it seems like a solid way to learn the various classes while also experiencing a moderately compelling tale.

The only real problem with the multi-player is that most people play like absolute bitches. I fight with honor, and will 1v1 my opponent even if it means my death. However, I've played against way too many people already who will sprint away as soon as I get the upper hand. I'll also allow my teammates to fight 1v1 if I dispatch my opponent early rather than double-teaming, at least until the other team starts double-teaming, at which point all bets are off. I have run into a few groups who do the same, but by and large everyone is quick to double-team. The game is called For Honor you fuckers.

So what's the combat system like? Is it read and react style where you choose a direction to attack or block opponents attacks?

Basically. You have a triangle. Up, left, right. Your mouse (or right stick) controls which way your guard is, and that's also which way you attack. You guard automatically in the direction your guard is in (except for at least one class where you have to actively restore your guard). There are guard breaks, dodges, dodge rolls, parries, counters, bleeds, throws...it's a deep combat system, and each character has different combos and intricacies. Varying characters have different speeds, health (or defense), and power.

It's kind of like they took a fighting game and infused it with a third person action game. Much of the game is duels between two players, although one of the main problems with the Elimination mode (4v4, no respawns) is that the first player to die typically starts a chain reaction of deaths for their team.

I've enjoyed the game so far. The single-player was unexpected and is enjoyable, and the multi-player, while sometimes frustrating (some players are already absurdly good, and I've had a few matches ruined by connection issues that definitely weren't on my end), is fun, particularly with friends.

Thoughts on The Force Unleashed? It's available for free on XB1 backwards compatibility right now and strongly considering downloading it.
