The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Think I might actually bite the bullet on For Honor, but gonna wait for the technical stuff to get ironed out a bit.

Yeah I bought it and don't regret it. Got several friends playing it as well so it's a lot of fun.

Torment is out today. Getting really good buzz based on reviews. Might have to buy it when I finish PoE and Tyranny.

Zelda too this week.

I think I'm sick of video games. I'm not trying to put a damper on this thread but I've had more thoughts of selling my xbox one and xbox 360 over the last three months than I have had desire to play. I got GoW from my GF for Christmas and it's my favorite campaign mode to play in my history of video games. However, I can't find the desire to play.

Anyone else ever go through spurts like this?

Absolutely. My video gaming is always cyclical like this.

I grew up playing lots of games, back in the days of the N64 and original Xbox and all that shit. I lost interest in video games altogether through my first two years of college. Then I like, "rediscovered" gaming my junior year and started playing again for a while. It's been on and off since then. Truth be told, I've never really returned to being a "hardcore" (I hate this term) gamer. This is just natural progression, though, as a 27-year old I don't have the free time or lack of commitments that I had when I was a teenager. But even today I'll go through phases where I want to buy every game under the sun. I usually resist it, because I know I'll never play them all or even close. And then I go through phases where I'm like, "Fuck it, I'm done with video games, I have too much other more important stuff I want to focus on [career, fitness, women, etc]."

Now days, I usually only buy a couple games a year, usually games that I absolutely have to have (new installments in my favorite franchises, or games that are just so absurdly acclaimed that I have to try them, ala Witcher 3). I'm satisfied with that, to be honest. It's all I have time for, frankly, so I find myself thinking long and hard before I buy a new game. And going back to your statement that you have no desire to play, I find that there are only a few games these days that I truly have the desire to sit down and play. So it works out in the end.

I mean, just look at this year. 2017. What games am I planning on buying as of right now? Uh, Mass Effect Andromeda, probably Zelda (though I really don't want to buy a Switch just for that game, no matter how good it is) and maybe the new Shadow of War LOTR game that just got announced. Can't think of much else this year that I fancy.

Still call myself a gamer, it's a hobby I'll always have, probably. But sometimes there are other things in life that you you wish to attend to more, or you just aren't feeling gaming at the moment. I'd like to have a family someday, and I imagine that is when my gaming will be even further constricted. But when a new Blizzard game, or Mass Effect installment, or Zelda, or whatever comes out, I feel like I'll be there. No matter what. :D

This is exactly how I feel. Same age & cycles as well.

How is Horizon Zero Dawn?

If I wasn't in the middle of a Witcher 3 play through I'd be all over that game. Still need to purchase it at some point but Andromeda is right around the corner. Hopefully I'll even be able to finish the Witcher by then....

From wiki:

The sequel is set between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will have the player-character become the owner of the Ring of Power to face Sauron and his Nazgul forces. The game expands upon Shadow of Mordor's Nemesis system to apply to a larger part of the world, including other characters called Followers that will have behavior guided by how the player-character has interacted with them, creating a more personalized experience for each player.

From wiki:

Sounds pretty sweet. I loved the first one...thought the fighting mechanics were excellent but still yearned for the bigger battle feel the previous LOTR games had...sounds like they might be combining the best of both worlds.

Heh, I mentioned that in my post. Figured people already knew about it.

I suppose this means at some point I might actually have to finish Shadow of Mordor. On the plus side, it's been installed on my PC since I bought it on a Steam sale...the Halloween one I think.

I still need to finish The Witcher 3. I've been heads down in World of Warcraft:Legion expansion and dude, Star Wars:Galaxy of Heroes on the mobile side. I'm addicted!

Definitely need to finish it. The base game was fantastic, and the two expansions were both improvements on it story-wise. Such great characters in that game. I love Geralt's dry, shitty sense of humor.

I'm now addicted to For Honor. It's taken TF2's place for now as my multiplayer fix.
