The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I am rehooked on the paradox games. Hearts of Iron, Crusader Kings, Europa...all great games if you are into history. Or, you can find mods that can totally change the game. For example, AGOT mod for CK2 is AMAZING.

Are you into Total War?

The latest one ventured into Warhammer Fantasy territory, but I'm a fan of the series. I wish CA would get the rights and develop a full on Westeros: Total War, that would be incredible. I know there's mods, but it just isn't the same.

I purchased all the Total War's up to the New Rome remake. I love the idea of them doing other franchises, Westeros: Total War would be a MEGA hit.

However, I do find a little bit of the civilization building in those games to be lacking. But the battles are INCREDIBLE. I remember playing the original Medieval and Rome's and being blown away by the AI. Learned a ton of stuff from those games just because of the reference.

For what it's worth, I think Empire Total War is my favorite game of the franchise. Something about the sound of the muskets and cannons can really set a scene.

Medieval 2 is my fav but I havent played many since then. Warhammer was on sale so I grabbed it but I have to build my new computer before I can run it.

You guys need to subscribe the Humble Monthly Bundle. I got TW: Warhammer for twelve bucks a few months back, and there were like eight other games included as well that month. This month is the director's cut of Dark Souls 2 (the rest of the games get announced when the entire bundle actually releases in the first week of July). Last month was Stellaris, Plague Inc, Superhot, Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation, and a few others. Basically every game in the bundle costs more than twelve bucks, so it's a great deal.

I've been using Reddit's GameTrade channel to try to trade games I already have or don't want for things that I do. I flipped Inside for Day of the Tentacle a few days ago.

So Nintendo killed E3.....

PlayStation did well as usual.

Xbox was so meh.

Playing Metro Last Light, sneaking around an area for ~30 minutes, finally reached the exit and walked into a trip wire and exploded, reverted to last checkpoint. I laughed.

Haven't really kept up on much gaming-wise as of late - is it still worth it to guy buy a PS4 (or Pro) at this point? I'd hate to go out and get one, only to have the next console come up relatively soon. Obviously nothing substantial has come out regarding PS5, but I'd just hate to invest in PS4 only to have it become obsolete within a year. Thanks all

If you're not going to be getting into PC gaming then you shouldn't worry as the PS4 Pro won't be obsolete in a year. They're launching an all-new PSVR platform and PSVR games so, it's really not close to end-of-life yet.

PS4 Pro isnt even true 4K, right?

I just bought a Slim. Wasn't about to pay $400 for that. Considering just switching full time to PS4. Been an Xbox guy all around, just don't see any exclusives for Microsoft these days.

AFAIK it is in the sense that the output resolution is 4k. The only feature it's lacking is Ultra HD 4K Blu-Ray playback...

But if we're being completely honest, then neither of these consoles (XoX vs Pro) is doing anything close to "high" settings at 4k, let alone 60fps... it's a joke, really..

Lots of people are saying the same thing.

I thought they said XoX was going to pump 60 FPS. I don't know, I don't follow the tech of it that closely. I'm all about the games. But speaking on that subject, yeah, all my Xbox One games or at least most of them are multiplatform. Meanwhile PS4 has a handful of exclusives I'd really like to play TLOU, Bloodborne, God of War which is upcoming, Days Gone looks intriguing...the bundle I bought came with Uncharted 4 which is supposed to be great (I played 2 or 3, can't remember which, but I liked it). Among other games.

Not sure how their online service stacks up to Live but I haven't played an online console game in a long time. They just never grab me.

So I dunno. Doubt I'll get rid of my Xbox One, but I do kind of wish I got a PS4 to begin with. Not like I'd have missed out on anything besides Gears 4, which was fun but not world changing, and even then a lot of the Xbox exclusives are on PC if I really wanted to play them. Like the new Ori. Meh.

Then again my Xbox One was bought by friends when I was in the hospital, so not like I had a choice. :chuckle: Free shit, can't complain.

They did, but.. that's straight bullshit when you think about it.. The only way that'd be possible is if the games are going to take a quality hit with either a greatly reduced geometry or interpolated frames in exchange for going to 4k from 1080p. You already see this with the Xbox One rendering games at 720p and 960p and just upscaling to 1080p. Or taking 30fps renderings and interpolating to 60fps.

Point being: Microsoft is playing fast and loose with these terms. 4k@60fps is VERY difficult to do with the best hardware in existence on PC. So it's essentially impossible for an Xbox One X to do this without making some significant sacrifices in quality.

I've always heard Live was better... but, personally, I really stopped playing console games. I recently started playing my desktop games on my other TVs and my MacBook Pro using GameStream and it was great.

Definitely can't complain bro! ;)

I'm literally doing the same thing - haven't seen anything great come through on Xbox in a while. Between Shadow of the Colossus and Last of Us 2, I definitely want to make the change.

Yeah. Like I said, not ditching my Xbox, but I was actually going to buy a Scorpio before, now I really don't see a point. I just saw Destiny 2 will run at 30 FPS on Xbox One X. What is the point??

It's crazy to me why anyone would get an Xbox. Even if the X plays third party games better, there are very few exclusives (Ori is the only one I would care about) that make it worth it. If I had extra money I would grab a PS4 Slim for third party and the many exclusives (I think they deserve more shit for how slow they've been to trickle them out though) that I would love to dive into, but for now I'm just happy I grabbed a Switch when I did because Mario Odyssey looks like an LSD induced fever dream.
