The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It's cool. As I said, it wasn't meant to be a personal attack. Just a joke. Obviously I have no problem with you personally. We might disagree on some stuff, but I think we're all adult enough (well, most of us are at least) to take the piss out of each other on occasion as long as it's not mean-spirited, right?

And nope, haven't played it. Got the South Park game and the new Wolfenstein to get through and I barely have time for those. I might pirate it for the single-player once I'm done with those two games. Call of Duty multi-player has never been interesting to me.
Yeah for sure! I figured you were just giving me a hard time lol.

But ahh I see. I used to really like the multiplayer when I was in high school but I haven't played it much since then. The recent call of duty games have sucked ass so I hope going back to ww2 can get the series back on the right track.

There was no toxicity until you posted.
Okay, so your put down humor going for low hanging fruit of egregious everybody is a Nazi or Nazi sympathizer that is to the right of John McCain wasn't at all toxic? I made a simple benign request and you guys jumped on my shit.

I played CoD MP a bit in High School but not as much as most. I did play the shit out of MW2, though. Since that game I've hardly touched MP.

While I will definitely play some MP in WW2, I'm most excited about zombies. I absolutely loved the original WaW zombies and this looks like a newer, better version of it.

WaW zombies was amazing. I miss all the downloadable maps. I don't even want to know how many hours I logged on them lol.

I went ahead and bought the new one so I'll update once this shit downloads. I hate how long it takes to download/install games on Xbox.

I know you have all the Muslims on RCF blocked but, thought I would cite one of them for you:

@Jack Brickman

How is that new Wolfenstein though? Saw a video of Hitler on Venus pissing and vomiting and it just looked fantastic.

I have unblocked everybody, but we certainly don't need your baiting post.

I think I missed out on the CoD multi-player era. When I was a kid we played GoldenEye. When I was a teenager we played Halo. That was also the time my family got a new PC right when Half-Life came out, so I got into Team Fortress Classic and Unreal Tournament as well. I loved the original Call of Duty games, but have been disappointed by how the single-player these days is just an afterthought and the multi-player is the main focus. I mean, I get why they do that, but it's still disappointing, as the original two CoD games had great, long single-player campaigns. Now, you're lucky to get six hours out of one of them.

I've only played the first two or three levels, so I can't comment on too much. If you played and enjoyed the first one, this is basically just more of the same, and I mean that in a good way. The shooting is fun. The stealth system, while nothing groundbreaking, works well enough. If I recall, the first game was checkpoint-based, which meant if you fucked up your stealth you either had to just say fuck it and kill a few waves of enemies or you had to reload the checkpoint. In this one, you can save whenever you want, which makes stealth a bit more practical, as you're able to experiment a lot more without fear of losing several minutes of progress.

The opening of the first level was fucking great, though, as you get to roll around in a wheelchair while gunning down Nazis on a submarine. Every bit as ridiculously awesome as I've come to expect from this surprisingly great series. I haven't gotten to anything truly absurd yet like some of the clips and screenshots I've seen (including a naked pregnant woman covered in blood dual-wielding machine guns). But naturally you expect the game to build up to those moments. I just got to New York in the game, which features a great Fallout-esque moment where you emerge from a parking garage to see the nuclear wasteland that New York has become. That moment was where I stopped playing, and it's roughly the fourth level in the game depending on how you classify the first two, which kind of run together.

@gourimoko Just to add a bit to my previous post now that I'm done with work, took the dogs out, and am chilling...

Don't know if you've played the Dishonored games, but I love stealth like that. They openly encourage exploration and trying multiple things. Sometimes I'd decimate all the guards for fun with some batshit crazy abilities and then load my save and do the stealth play-through, since that was the way I ultimately chose to play the game (no kills, KOs only). Sometimes I'd get through a section successfully, but not as neatly as I hoped, so I'd just reload my save and do it over. Love games that give you that option. Checkpoint based games are the worst when it comes to stealth. Forces perfection every time, which just isn't practical considering sometimes you fail for reasons you can't prevent or can't predict.

So I definitely appreciate Wolfenstein's decision to allow quicksaves in the sequel. Makes stealth much more usable without being frustrating like it tended to be in the first game. I also like how the game rewards you for doing things. You kill ten people in stealth mode, you get a 10% bonus to your movement speed. Then there's another tier after that (not sure if it's 20 or more...don't remember) where you get another bonus. There are categories for almost every way you might chose to play the game. Ten headshots improves your damage while aiming down the sights, for example. Makes the game more fun because you're constantly rewarded. The first game did this as well but it seems a bit deeper in the sequel, and it tracks your progress with on-screen updates so you always know how far you are away from another upgrade without having to open the menu. Smart design.

One other improvement is that you get an added bonus for taking out commanders. In the first game, the only bonus to killing them was that, once all commanders in an area were dead, there was no one to call reinforcements. In the sequel, you get that, but commanders also drop a code. When you kill all the commanders in a section of the map, the secrets from that area appear on your map. I like that change as well, as it means less searching through every corner of the map looking for someone's diary.

Thus far, it's like playing an improved, more usable version of the first game. Most of the improvements outside of the graphics are quality of life upgrades. And I'm fine with that, because again, the first game and its expansion were fucking great. I'm looking forward to getting more into the meat of the story, as the first few levels basically exist to set up the rest of the game and remind you of events from the first. Also, the intro to this game had a five minute or so recap of the first game. I love that! Why don't more games do that? Most of the time, by the time the sequel rolls around, all I remember is bits and pieces of the first game, and yet recap videos are rare as hell.

I picked up Wolfenstein yesterday. I didn't play the first one, but I played some of the older entries in the series. Going to try to pump some out before I hit the gym.
