The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Do we have any PUBG players on RCF? I've been playing it a ton lately, and really love this genre. I'm excited for a game with a good engine to emerge and combine the awesome ideas of PUBG with gameplay that isn't as frustrating.

Not nearly as big a fan of Fortnite because it's all third person, and only snipers can ADS. Playing a battle royale in first-person is just so much more enjoyable for me, and so is not having to build a fucking ramp while I'm shooting at a guy.

YES! This 100%.

Its annoying to me. I get that it provides a different element to games, but I feel thats its too much for a single player game. Now, when you play with a team of 2-4, then its cool, cause now you have roles...one builds, the others watch his back, etc...

It's not the building itself that I have a problem with. I think that's an extremely cool addition to the genre.

It's building in the middle of a gunfight that I simply can't stand. Part of what makes this genre so appealing to me is having to think about the land, cover, etc. and tactically plan out a fight and adjust during fights. In fortnite, if I don't like my position, I can just literally build a ramp upward to get a better angle in the middle of a firefight. That's where I draw the line.

I’ve owned it since Christmas, but haven’t downloaded it yet for whatever reason. People keep telling me to as well.

You totally should. If you haven't played a Battle Royale game before, it's something you should try. It's a wholly unique experience, and I haven't played a game that gives me as much adrenaline before.

I used to play Fortnite a decent amount, but like I said earlier Overwatch and Skyrim kind of took over. Been finally playing Mario Odyssey as well. I’ll try to give it a shot

Anyone else play Overwatch around here? Got it in like November and have been playing it nonstop. Skyrim has faded for me...fighting my way through death lords to get to Alduin. Get fucking killed without saving and takes me back all the way to the dragon that’s supposed to fly me to the place. Haven’t played since.
I come and go on Overwatch, but I really really like it. Been enjoying watching the Overwatch League too. I'll play almost every day for a month or two, and then hang it up for a few weeks. I'm more or less addicted to MOBA's, so playing Overwatch kinda steals my time from that. :chuckle:

I'm super crap at FPS cause I play on console and my aim is terrible, but being able to play support and tank in Overwatch has been super fun.

They’re dropping hints for a new hero coming soon. Don’t know if you pay attention to that stuff

Yup, I saw that yesterday. I'm kind of in one of my down cycles on that game. I played a TON during the winter event and right after Moira came out (who i LOVE btw). But I've barely played in the last couple weeks. Haven't even played Blizzard World yet :( although I've queued for like 20 matches since it came out. I just never get it.

Dude, I have just NEVER gotten accustomed to console controls for FPS. I played Wolfenstein on Xbox One and I literally had to turn it down to Easy I was such shit with the controls. I don't know if I will ever get used to them.

Oh, it's SO bad. But I play PC games on a Mac, so I can play basically every Blizzard game except Overwatch. :( So Xbox it is for me then.

I'm always queueing up for Heroes or Hearthstone. Would be so much better if I could just play Overwatch in the same place.

Blizzard World is pretty sweet

I am functional with console FPS controls, but that's about it.

As I mentioned above, using the mouse and keyboard for the gun fights in GTA V just turns the game into easy mode. Missions that I was frustrated with on the Xbox breeze right by. I remember avoiding Trevor's first rampage mission like the plague on PC because I remembered how much trouble that fucking thing gave me on the Xbox. Finally bit the bullet and played it on the PC and beat it easily on the first try.

Also, the mission where he goes to the farmhouse and kills all those brothers was a pain in the ass with a controller. On the PC, I sniped everyone outside in about fifteen seconds without alerting the guys in the house, then entered like the fucking Terminator and just annihilated everyone inside in less than a minute. :chuckle:

I ordered a steam controller to stream to my tv and still have good controls. Track pad plus gyro as well as how customization makes it a great alternative to mouse and keyboard. The sc has the best mobility plus precision available for a controller as you can do fast 180's with the track pad and gyro for precision.

I'm addicted to OW. I play on PS4. Lucio and Dva main, but I can play any of the supports and tanks except Rein.

Check out The Overguard - it's a free Overwatch league for players of all skill levels on both PC and consoles. My friends and I made a team and played in it last season and it was an absolute blast. A lot of the games have free commentators too and it's cool as hell to see your team playing with commentary.

Also if you are really into Overwatch, I can't recommend watching the official Overwatch League enough. It's extremely well done, fun to watch, and you learn a lot by watching the pros.

Been playing Slay the Spire. Best way I can describe this game is that it's Darkest Dungeon mixed with Gwent. You go from room to room in the spire fighting enemies, only the combat is all card-based, at least on your end. Enemy actions are displayed above their heads, which gives you the opportunity to try to counter them and stay alive, or go all in for a kill. After every fight you are given the opportunity to add one of three random cards to your deck, so the whole thing amounts to trying to build the best deck to survive all the way to the end. It's also a roguelike, so each death is final and means you're starting over from the bottom.

The game is very addictive. There are two classes right now, and each one has different cards and strategies. I've beaten the game with the main class three times now, and failed several more. I have yet to beat the game with the second class, but it's also considerably more difficult since the Silent has no means of healing herself outside of camp fires, and using camp fires to heal means you aren't using them to upgrade a card in your deck.

Main issue I have with it is that it seems like there aren't a whole lot of strategies available that will actually win you the game. For the primary class, you either want to build a strength-based deck and go for heavy damage, or you want to build a block deck if you're lucky enough to get the Barricade card to drop (Barricade lets your block carry over from turn to turn, whereas without it any blocking you add disappears at the start of your next turn). With the Silent, the only viable strategy I've found so far is building a poison deck. I got to the last boss last night that way, but just didn't quite have enough health to make it to the end of the fight. You're very much at the mercy of RNG. Had the game dropped me another poison card or two (really could have used Catalyst, which doubles an enemy's poison, or Corpse Explosion, which removes all poison from an enemy and then deals double that amount of damage to all enemies), I probably would have won.

All in all, though, I have to give the game points for its addictiveness. It's a game I want to keep playing, and ultimately that's the mark of a good game. Ironically, for as much as it reminds me of Darkest Dungeon, I never get the sense of stress I get from DD, probably because death just means starting over rather than potentially losing one to four of your best characters like it can in Darkest Dungeon.
