The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Just finished the RDR2 main story. Got the good ending. Still got the epilogues to play through. Hopefully there's plenty to do afterwards.

They got the gameplay to the most amazing point possible but the story got left in the fucking dust.
Well lemme tell ya, I don't like that the very first mission is like, going against 20 soldiers to kill one dude in the middle. Not really starting out easy.

There are so many fucking buttons and they're counter intuitive.

I'm currently stuck in a helicopter with a cassette player and I have been for 30 minutes. I watched a full episode of South Park and came back to the same shit.

Just seems like they said "how much shit can we pack into every inch everywhere"

Well, the early game is very linear. After that, it basically becomes an open world game where you kind of just pick a mission and do your thing.

The eaely part was absolutely fantastic. I can't even get out of this mission. Game just broke on me.

I mean, I enjoyed the game but it was definitely my least favorite MGS game. It's basically not a MGS game, really. It's an open world stealth action game.

As far as the Metal Gear Solid series goes, I'd rate them:

MGS3: Snake Eater
Metal Gear Solid
Metal Gear Solid IV
Metal Gear Solid II
Phantom Pain

Phantom Pain probably has the best actual gameplay, but it's the weakest overall in the series from a story/character perspective, imo.

Really didn't like most of 3, don't remember 4

1
(first half of 5)
2
3

4 somewhere

Just didn't like the feel of 3. The missions for 1 and 2 were the best

MGS3 is one of my top ten games of all time, so we're just not gonna agree on that one. I thought the ending was one of the best in the history of gaming.

@Chris knows what I'm talking about.

MGS3 was easily the best of the series, along with 1.

2 and 4 just did nothing for me.

Phantom Pain is a really good game, honestly, but I just dropped it after about halfway through. Too many other games, and it just lost me with the zero story thing like Jack said. Really good gameplay, and I wish I'd put more effort into getting around to it back in 2015 when it came out then I might've finished it. Instead I put it off forever (thanks, Witcher 3) and by the time I got to it there were just too many newer games that caught my attention.

MGS is a series I look back on and I'm like, "Eh, not sure why I was so into that back in the day," in all honesty. Except for Snake Eater. That one is usually on my top 10 list as well.

Yeah, the issue for me is that it never really felt like a MGS game. They pivoted into an entirely new game style, but the problem is that I think most of us played MGS for the story more so than the gameplay. Yeah, the story has always been dumb and batshit crazy, but it's also fun and has featured some awesome characters, crazy set pieces, and absurdly over the top action. MGSIV had its faults, but it was a MGS game through and through and I loved just about every minute of it. The Phantom Pain is a really fun and deep open world game, but it's completely lacking in the MGS aesthetic.

The problem, I think, is that it's hard to do open world games with great stories. Since the player is pretty much left to move at his or her own pace, story becomes secondary in most of them. Really, Witcher 3 is one of the few to really find a balance between a massive open world game and a compelling, well-written story. In the end, while I liked Phantom Pain for what it was, I would have much preferred another linear, balls to the wall stealth/action experience with great boss fights and way too much dialogue.

I remember joking that they must have paid Kiefer by the line, because that's the only explanation for why he barely talks in the fucking game. :chuckle:

OK so I haven't played 5 in years and just picked it up and frankly I have no attention span to listen to these fucks or read. Can you walk me through tljust the very rudimentary concept?

I'm given 3 missions. Or I can explore. If I explore more will more Missions unlock? All of these missions are boring. 2/3 I'm given are literally the same. I'm exploring more area but I don't really see the point in doing so.

Is there.. Any story at all? How do I get to that point?

If I recall, the main missions are numbered, and by doing them, they unlock more missions. I think there are also side missions and stuff, but again I haven't played the game in ages so a lot of the little details are lost on me.

The main draw of the game is unlocking all of the new weapons and items that make the game more fun. The early missions tend to be a little vanilla because you only have a few weapons at your disposal.

Well, the new weapons and items add more layers to the gameplay, as they give you lots of additional options when it comes to infiltrating bases and taking out enemies.
