The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Going to spoil the ending of the second episode of Wolf Among Us, so don't read the section below if you haven't finished it yet.

After thinking on it a bit, I'm no longer totally convinced that Crane is the killer, which was obviously the implication of episode two's ending. He seemed genuinely upset at the beginning of the game when you have the conversation with him about Snow being dead, and he's usually such an insufferable prick that it definitely did seem legit. I'm starting to think that the hooker was killed after he left. I mean, if he really wanted to kill her, he's one of the few people with literally every opportunity to do so. He's around her all day. Further, would he really be dumb enough to leave a package of pictures in the murder room with his photo in it? Seems like a frame job to me.

Thoughts from anyone who has played it?

Just finished Outlast for PS4 and I actually enjoyed the game a lot. I'm not much of a sequel guy but I wouldn't mind one in a different setting. Kind of almost had a Silent Hill meets Bioshock feel to it. Legit made me jump on more than one occasion and it looked pretty good too for an indie game.

I am playing that later as I am playing Killzone SF, Tombraider DE, NBA2k14, and Resogun (that I love) right now. Outlast makes me want to wait hah. I do not do well with horror games anymore.

Thanks for the heads up, didn't realize it was out. I loved the first episode, will probably re-play before I do 2. Telltale has probably solidified themselves as my second favorite developer behind Naughty Dog.

After I beat episode 2, suggestions on what to play next? I'm thinking the Witcher 2 since I love RPGs and people raved about it. Never played the first though.

You don't need to have played the first one. You can pick up the second for super cheap now, as the third one is set to come out in a few months.

You'll easily spend 40+ hours on just one playthrough. It's a big game.

The one game that sticks in my mind as being a chilling experience was Silent Hill 2. I remember being uncomfortable about being uncomfortable... "Come on man, what's wrong with you. You're playing a video game!" I'm not sure if anything has replicated that feeling since. That game was effective because of the ambiance. Would you say that this new one compares to the Silent Hills (If you've played them)?

Silent Hill was such a terrifying experience because it tapped the previously uncharted territory of psychological horror in video games. Sadly, the more recent installments lack the charm of the old ones, but you know the developers have done something right when you need to take a breather every few minutes or you're very slowly creeping around that next corner where you think you might have heard something.

Also, things like this didn't exactly help you feel more safe and secure, either:

I've completely fallen out of the gaming loop with working two jobs. What is Steam? Is it like a mod to player older games? If so I'd love to get on board with that. I miss the classic games with tons of replay value as opposed to paying $70 bux for a game for 3 weeks.

I bought the Xbox One and have had it for 3 months which is ironic because there's like exactly 3 games available for it.

http://store.steampowered.com/about/

It's basically a client that you can buy games on, lots and lots of games, new and old. The library of games is unmatched, same with the prices. They hold sales daily, huge sales a couple times a year, for example, I got Pay Day 2 on PC on sale within a month of it being out for around $10, the game is still used for $30 on 360/ps3 though ps3 is now making it free as long as you have PS+. They also will have 1-3 games free a weekend that will also be on sale incase you like it, the new Saints Row was free for a week a month ago. Basically if you're a gamer Steam is a must have, it cost you nothing to download and make an account so there's nothing to lose.

There will still be games that won't be on PC thus not on steam, like Red Dead Redemption or The Last of Us, so having a console as a gamer is still a needed.

Damn I have a Mac. Looks like I might have to grab a PC.

I know the feeling on that one... right now I essentially have a $500 box to watch Netflix with because I don't use it as much as I thought I would since I'm kind of out of the loop with gaming too.

Mainly I just have buddies over when we don't feel like going to a bar, and we just play FIFA or 2K14. I have Battlefield too but I completely suck at it, as a result of playing COD. I wish a good RPG would come out for it. Ryse looked like a buttom masher game where you just lay waste to drones of dummy enemies. Hoping some more games begin rolling out.

Turrican for Sega Genesis. Hardest game I have ever played. Then Team Fortress 2 after I inevitably lose in Turrican.

Started playing Rust, mostly due to the fact that literally all of my TF2 friends have been playing it the past two weeks.

It's pretty fun. It's an early access game on Steam, so it's not finished yet, although it is reasonably polished for an alpha release. I've only been disconnected from a server once due to wandering into a glitched area, of which there seem to only be a handful, and it's a big map.

The basic premise of the game seems to be DayZ meets Minecraft. I've played a lot of the former and none of the latter, but I'm enjoying Rust for what it is, which is a survival-based game where you can mine resources, craft weapons and items, and build massive structures to protect yourself and your valuables from other players. A cool feature is that you can lock the doors in your base with a four digit code, which you can then distribute to your friends so that they can access your base. You can also "share" doors with your friends so they don't have to enter the code at all.

My friends and I currently have a massive 5x5x5 wooden fortress surrounded by wooden spikes (which inflict damage if you get too close) and a giant wooden gate. The task I've been given is to add a giant tower to the center of the roof of our fortress.

All in all, it's a pretty fun game if you have friends to play it with. I can imagine it not being terribly enjoyable alone, but that's not an issue for me. I am looking forward to seeing what new features and research options they add. Right now the game only has a handful of weapons and only two types of bases (wood and metal).

Gridiron Solitaire. Basically its football but with solitaire. You go through an entire season plus playoffs and try to win the championship. It's a well thought out game. On offense, you can choose between Pass or Run. Pass gets you more yards but you have to get a string of 3 or more cards in order to move the football. Running gets you less yards but you move immediately. You have to get a string of cards in order to move down the field to score.
On defense, you have to choose what you think the other team is going to do (run or pass). If you are right, they get less yards and it is easier to stop them. If you are wrong, they get more yards and there is a possibility of a big gain play where they get like 50 yards automatically. Each time you get a string of cards, you move them back on the field and if you do it long enough it results in a loss of yards.
There is a big play button on both offense and defense that can help you out immensely. On defense it gives you another card to help you and can sometimes make them turn the ball over. On offense it does the same thing but you can turn the ball over (happens more than I would like).
All in all I like the game. Got it on Steam for $10.

Anyone played Kingdoms of Amular? It's got some solid reviews and looks like it has a dreamtime development cast. Although I know it didn't sell well and the company that made it went bankrupt.

I never finished it but I enjoyed what I played of it.

And not finishing it isn't really a damning indictment from me. I don't finish most games I play, especially insanely long ones like Kingdoms. Part of the problem is that I'm the type who tries to do every side quest, and inevitably something else will come out before I finish a lengthy game like Kingdoms and I'll move on to that one instead.

If you like action RPGs, it's worth playing. The combat is fun and the story is serviceable. I've heard the difficulty curve is a bit wonky, and that the game is insanely easy by the time you reach the latter stages of the game because your character is so powerful. I can't vouch for that personally, though.
