Tim Duncan Announces Retirement

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He was 12th and 13th in the entire NBA the last two seasons in RAPM. I thought we were going to at least get to say farewell. But in true Timmy fashion he said farewell in the middle of the night.

Thanks Timmy, you were far better than anyone wants to give you credit for.

Mad respect to one of the all-time greats. An old school player that let his game do his talking and loyal to a tee. He will be missed in today's NBA.

Duncan is a top-10 player all time. The dude was still an NBA starter and DPOY candidate this season. It's a sad day for the NBA, and people saying the Spurs will be better are crazy, I think they'll be a four seed at best this season.

Kawhi is an outstanding defensive player, however part of his defense is due to Tim Duncan standing in the middle of the paint, that size and mobility made it so all of Kawhi's defensive mistakes were covered. Pau Gasol isn't even on the same planet as Duncan defensively. Spurs will feel this loss both qualitatively (HoFer, lifelong Spur retiring) and quantitatively (performance in games and record).

Greatest PF Ever, and easily in the conversation as one of the best bigs ever too. He's the reason why I have a great bank shot too lol.

It's time to say goodbye to The Big Fondamental.

You've earned the basketball gods' respect. Your on court presence will be missed.

Pretty telling that Kobe has an elaborate season-long goodbye tour while Duncan just quietly retires at the end of the season.

He's always been the anti-Kobe for me at least

NBA is gonna feel real weird next season. Gonna miss Timmy D. One of my favorite players ever.

One of my favorite non Cavs of all time.. I have nothing but admiration and respect for the Spurs and that has a ton to do with Timmy.

I actually had a chance to meet Tim and David Robinson back in I believe in 1999... I was working at the gamestop in Tower City then and alot of visiting athletes would come through there because road teams in the NBA and MLB would stay in whatever hotel was/is in Tower City (Renaissance?). (once meet Ken Griffy Jr who was in cognito unsuccessfully).

Anyway, those two came into the store and David actually played video games in the store for a good 20 minutes, talked to a lot of kids... was very vocal and friendly. Tim was just quiet, just as his public persona would suggest. He was polite if talked to, but the kids in the store didn't seem to be nearly as aware of who he was as David.

No real point to the story, just sharing an experience I had. But I will say that encounter has always resulted in me following both of their careers with interest.. I'm sad this day has come, the writing seemed to be on the wall in the Spurs series with OKC. Father time man.. it's relentless. I cannot believe how long ago my story took place and he is just now retiring.

Farewell Timmy, you are one of the greats.

Never saw Timmy live....

for those who saw Duncan live at a game, what struck you the most?

Has to be on the all-time All-Nba team because it was never about him. He would adjust his game to fit the abilities of his teammate, so you'd never have to worry about "fit".

How the fuck did he never win a DPOY?
Best PF of all time and a top 10 player ever. I'd take him over Kobe in terms of career value and just under Lebron and Shaq

One Ray Allen 3pt shot away from being 6/6 in the NBA finals.

Epitome of what a franchise player is.
