Time for a Rudy Gay safari?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It feels like the most likely scenario here is that the Celtics step in with a godfather offer. I've never seen a team with such a crazy backlog of draft picks and young players combined with such a desparate need for veteran talent (yes, still after getting the overrated Al Horford).

That New Jersey trade was so stupid and one-sided the league office should have stopped it.

NOPE.... If I'm going to Sac I'm going to go get me a mismatch and not someone who doesn't provide much.... Not matching up wings.... Rather attack a weakness than make a trade and continue to be inferior....

Y'all crazy

If you were somehow able to get Gay, I don't think you put him on Durant. I think you match him up on Green so LeBron can stay on Durant. Then, you can run Irving, JR, LBJ, Gay, and Love/Thompson. The other option would be going big with Irving, Gay, LBJ, Thompson, and Love.

Either way, he makes you more versatile and gives you an additional wing scorer when LeBron is off the floor. That being said, I don't think we have anything they'd want. Would likely have to find a team that wanted Shump and would send something to Sac for us.

If we were going to do a trade with Sacramento I see a Shump/Koufos swap being far more likely.

Which to be honest I wouldn't be opposed to if Shump doesn't elevate his game this year.

Losing shump for another big creates a huge hole if we arent getting a wing defender in return or elsewhere.

Who could we realistically possibly get that would give us a mismatch? If a combo forward who can play 2-4 spots doesn't do it for you, I'm guessing you are thinking of a center?

Makes no sense, unless we're cool with Kevin Love trying to comically guard Draymond again.

I disagree completely. You don't put LeBron on Durant. That's same trap OKC used to always fall for. They'd put Durant on LeBron, and Durant would get tired. LeBron would NOT guard Durant until crunch time, and guess which player looked better down the stretch?

LeBron will be 32. It's a lot to ask from him to play that kind of defense all series long, and then still be himself on offense. You put him on Green (which has worked) and let Gay defend Durant.

That would be the entire purpose of the trade. You don't put LB on Durant until crunch time, but definitely not the entire game. Not at his age. And why risk the foul trouble either? Durant is good at getting fouls.

I think Gay is additive in the same sense JR was.. Gay has not been contributing to wins, as mUchiha as playing for himself. But on a contender he will play for the ring, and physically I think he is a better fit than JR.. not saying we should dump JR, but that really depends on LeBron..

I would love to get Gay :)chuckle:), but if hes a FA after this season, we are giving up 2 years of control of Shumpert for a guy who will most certainly walk and get paid. I would much rather have Rudy, but not at what it is going to cost to retain him over what we could keep Shumpert for.

This man's last name is Gay

I like the idea of getting Rudy, but part of me thinks he might be fools gold.

He doesnt really defend well, he should, long and athletic, but he doesnt. Not a good outside shooter, not bad, but not really good. He is good at finishing at the rim, but not great at anything else except maybe rebounding.

In the end are we falling in love with the concept of Gay or the reality? We need another lengthy athletic defender, but does Gay really fit the mold or do we want him to fit that mold?
