Trade Rumor(s)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Lloyd passingly guessed about the Cavs trading the 2021 pick for a PG at the end of his Nets final thoughts article. I'd like to entertain trade targets rather than the buyout market if only because the names in the latter market bore me to tears. C'mon rumor mill add some smoke to this.

Problem is we are out of assets, I see Norris Cole or possibly Mario Chalmers coming via free agency. Although I would love to see what Quinn Cook can do at the next level. Anyone know what's up with him?

So you don't match Delly and then you acquire a PG for a 2021 1st round pick that is probably going to be paid close or more than what Delly was paid. Good sound tactic!

I loved Delly's contribution to the Cavs as much as the next guy --- but his play thus far this year demonstrates that it was clearly the right move.

Delly is a very limited NBA player - not an offensive threat, not a great defender (just frustratingly high energy), the Cavs system made him (outside of two other-worldly games in the 2015 finals).

We could find a lot of PGs that are better than Delly and will cost us less.

I wonder with Denver seemingly looking to mix things up, if Jameer Nelson could be had cheap?

I think he would be a great fit with the team. He can still hit the three, which is critical for this team. He's also a good distributor. Defense would be a problem though...

I'd have to pass on Nelson. His defense is horrible and his offense isn't nearly enough to make up for it. We could do better. I think Mario or Cole would be better than him.

I'd take DWill he's averaging 14 and 7 in 30mins a game. Didn't realize he was still fairly productive. Expecting Chalmers though.

And you could probably get him with Andy's exception and not much else since Dallas is trash and he's on a one year deal.

Problem is that you're looking at $35M in tax and remaining salary to have him. That's a big nut to swallow.

You could try pairing it with a move like Shumpert for Tucker or Shumpert for Sefalosha (Atlanta would need to send money somewhere else) in order to recoup some of the money.

Ricky Rubio & Shabazz Muhammad for Iman Shumpert, Bird Man, Varejao trade exception, and CAVS 2018 1st round draft pick.

Minny would do Iman for Shabazz because Iman has 3 years left in his contract and is having his best year since coming to Cleveland. Plus Minny didn't extend Shabazz's contract.

Minny has a surplus of PG's and getting a 2018 1st round pick might be enough to pry Rubio away.

Cavs do this because Shabazz takes the place of Iman and is shooting 37.5% from behind the arc.

Cavs need a quality PG to back up Kyrie and giving up a 1st round draft pick for Rubio would be a steal!

Shabazz is one of the worst defenders in the league (literally second to last in the NBA last year for qualifying players). He's unplayable here in anything but a garbage role.

I like Rubio on this team -- but his jump shot is too broken at the moment. If the Cavs think there is some quick fix you can implement to at least get him back to the mid-30s in 3PT percentage, then I'd say go for it. Otherwise, no reason.

Also, I think Minny will want more for Rubio.

We can't trade our 2018 pick and you can't combine a trade exception with anything.

Technically this can be two trades Shumpert for Rubio and TPE for Shabazz, so not a combination of TPE with players; while I completely agree that Griff will not do this if he's not drunk...
