Trade Rumor(s)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Sam The Bullshit Whisperer reporting that TWolves are very interested in Shump.

I am assuming that if we do trade Shump, it would be for someone like Rubio.

I would do that trade tbh. Shump's defense has fallen off quite considerably and while he has really improved his 3-point shooting, it can't be relied upon in big games. What I am torn about is the fact that if we do trade Shump for Rubio, do we keep Rubio or do we trade him away for someone else?

Rubio is the perfect ball-handler we all have especially LeBron has been desperately wanting. He would allow us to rest LeBron more because he is a very good floor general and can run those second units. He is also a very good defender. In fact, a better defender than Shump whose is our so called "defensive guard".

The only issue, that too a pretty major one is his shooting. Can it really be worked upon and improved? We do have some quality shooters/vets in Korver and James Jones. May be they work with him and help him improve his 3-point shooting a bit? We don't need him to shoot lights out. Just needs to shoot as a decent clip from one or two zones. That would be enough.

Or, we could just trade him away for some back-up PG + back-up Big.

Don't care about Rubio's shooting. We need fit at this point, and he fits as well here as he would anywhere. We've got shooters on shooters on shooters. You can't crowd the paint on us and guard his drives, because there's just too much shooting.

I would do Shump for Rubio, increase his value since he plays with LBJ and infinite amount of shooters and then trade Rubio+2nd round top55 protected pick for Butler/George = profit.

Thats true.

A second unit of Rubio + Korver + JR/RJ + LeBron + Frye has all you need from the second unit. It has enough shooting as well. Even LeBron is shooting well from 3 nowadays.

Not to mention, it makes LeBron be the roll man where he is unguardable. A Rubio-LeBron PnR with Korver + Frye + JR/RJ/DWill would be very good imo.

Shump + McRae for Rubio would be perfect!!!

It really depends on how Love felt about Rubio.

Its obvious from Lebron James statements regarding Derrick Williams past that Love didn't think Williams got a fair shake in Minnesota.

Does Love think the case is the same with Rubio?
also if a trade was done. it would probably be James Jones added to complete the trade.

Agreed. Perhaps this is why we haven't heard more chatter on this? Wolves need an SG and getting rid of Rubio creates more time for Dunn. Cavs need another playmaker and a back-up PG.

On paper, it's a great fit for both sides. Both teams get young players at positions of needs. Shump is replaceable with the addition of Korver. Rubio would essentially play the same role as Shump. Not as good of a shooter (at least this year) but a much better playmaker and a better defender.

For everything above, it'd stand to reason Love and Rubio didn't get along.

I read a while back that indeed Rubio and Love just didn't get along and Love's departure was a bit ugly.

Yeah. I remember seeing a few people mention it but I couldn't find anything concrete and I don't think anyone ever posted an article. Seems like the only thing that would actually hold up this type of trade.

I stiil wouldn't trade Shump for Rubio.

Rubios lack of shooting from the PG position is a problem regardless of how much shooting you have. It's not that we need a guy there who is a shooter, it's that Rubios entire game becomes weaker because of his lack of shooting, he becomes so easy to defend. And it's not like he's just an average or slightly below average shooter. He's an absolute trainwreck. All of the good PG's can shoot now.

Why would a good team in the playoffs do anything besides go under the pick on Rubio and force him to shoot. His play-making is instantly neutralized.

38% from the field, 28% from three? That's just flat-out pathetic. That's nearly unplayable against good teams. And he's 100% useless without the ball.

So THAT'S what the green highlighting on the sportrac site means... Thanks. I updated my post.

I still think you can't do that for the right to swap. That does bring the 2018 pick more in play for me though. But I think I just keep Butler.

To be honest I'm not sure how it works when you trade the rights to swap picks. If a team has multiple first round picks do they get to choose which pick is swapped? Is it the highest of their two picks? Is it their own? Do the Nets get any say in it? Interesting question and a quick search on the ol' google didn't yield an immediate result. Would be interesting to know though. @MoFlo ?

I need to do research but the more I thought about this the more Im convinced Boston actually can't just trade the right to swap to another team. They'd have to trade their own pick, and the right to swap goes with it.

Would be unfair to the other team if that's not the case. The nets make the deal with certain expectations and predictions about how good Boston will be in 2017. But if Boston can turn around and flip only the right to swap to a much better team, a team the Nets wouldn't have felt on trading that right to? See what I mean?

The right to swap picks is attached to Boston's pick.

If Boston trades their pick, the right to swap goes with it.

But they can't just trade the right to swap without trading their pick.

I actually hope Butler gets traded to the Celtics. That would probably mean Wade gets bought out...

Thanks for clearing that up. I agree Rich I think that's the only fair way to do it for the Nets

I'd have to see what Boston is giving up before being ok with Butler going there.

Funny how the Pelicans are one star away from being a contender when the Celtics need them to be one. They have the fire power to get the deal done but like you said. How and they do not have a Proven Star big man right now so it will make a deal very hard. The Celtics are playing good as a "team" gut them for a big two and they have no chance.
