Trade Rumor(s)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
No, that'd be EXACTLY when you trade assets, to turn them into a star player who signs long term.

What is going on in here?
Sure, when you're adding Kevin Love to Lebron James, not when you are adding Paul George to..... Lonzo Ball??? When he is likely to sign anyway.

That sound's absolutely insane to me. Like instant GM fire able offense insane.

Rich, I think the argument is that the Lakers would not trade anything for a player they believe they can sign outright in the following off-season.

According to Ramona Shelbourne the Lakers have zero interest in such a deal. ESPN's Bob Kravitz was saying the exact same thing today as well.

Lot's of analysts are saying the only team that makes sense here really is Cleveland, and it would be for a very reduced value given George's really poor timing (from a Pacers perspective) just a few days prior to the draft.

People need to make up their mind here. Do you or do you not believe that if George is traded here he stays here. I'm debating 12 people at once, so it's hard to keep track.

If you believe that he's going to LA regardless of what happens here, then your position makes perfect sense. Not everyone I'm talking to believes that.

And if you believe that, once George gets here and starts winning, he'll stay here, that's the incentive for the Lakers to trade for him.

Ok then, so that brings on the next question, are you willing to bet Kevin Love that the Lakers are wrong?

If PG is traded here, even if he truly wants to sign with the Lakers in 2018, he's not leaving after playing here with Lebron, Kyrie and possibly Love. Winning is everything

No, I'm totally with you there. I'm not risking Love on a bet like that -- forget it.

That's why you must have assurances, a backroom handshake deal, that George is committed to the Cavs long-term... Otherwise, you can't trade Kevin Love for a 1-year rental.

But, with that said, Love seems like the absolute maximum we'd part with given the circumstances. Woj and McMenamin's articles, seem to imply that might be wishful thinking for the Pacers.. again.. given the situation that George has left them in.

Ideally, they'd like to trade him by Thursday; and I highly doubt they'll enter the season with him -- that'd be an unfortunate set of circumstances.

Regardless though, if George isn't offering us a handshake deal, and this just being kabuki theater to get from A->B then I'm not interested. I wouldn't trade for George without those assurances..

Ok, this is the conversation I'd like to have. Currently it seems like I'm having more of a "George really doesn't mean it, he doesn't want to play in LA" conversation.

I think you and I are on the same page... If George is serious about Los Angeles.. if that's actually true.. then the Cavs should have nothing to do with him.

IF on the other hand, it's just a show, a means of getting the Pacers to trade him to the Cavs; which is possible; then I could see the Cavs being interested.

One way or another though, given the fact that the league has stated players talking isn't tampering, and the fact that George and James are actually pretty close (as far as players go); then I'd be shocked if the Cavs do not already know George's intentions.

I agree with this too....

But the point is, if George is 100% set on LA in 2018, there's no way he'd put the Lakers in a position of using assets to acquire him, when those assets could be used to pair him with another star.

George has undeniably (everyone agrees) forced Indiana into a position where they have to trade him. They will not let him walk for nothing...

if it makes you guys feel better, the lakers board is apparently talking about getting him without giving up the 2nd round pick because reasons.

Exactly; which means, George is in the driver seat.. so long as no other team is crazy enough to offer assets for him; given his hell-bent attitude to get to L.A. (believe me it's not so great), I don't think we'll have much competition.

What team has more assets and motivation to keep PG away from Cleveland?.....And is located in Cali?......And wouldn't care if he was a one year rental?......Just saying.

I thought about this.

If the Cavs believe they can convince George to stay, what stops Golden State from just offering up Klay Thompson for George instead, and thinking the same?

Because GS has Thompson locked into a deal and he fits their system, etc etc. it doesn't behoove them to make any changes.

I hear your point though
