Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It’s now a completely new series with TT seeing the floor tonight !!! I’m pumped and feel confidant the Cavs win by 10ish !!

And then when Lue doesn't play him and we lose, you'll say it was the right decision.

Again.

GTFO.

Remember how, I think it was late in the year, Lue kind of let Tristan show everyone that he should not be in the rotation by playing him some?

That happened again tonight.

The best part about tonight, to me, is that Lue rolled out Tristan and we still won. And, Lue doesn't have to hear about playing Tristan again moving forward because everyone saw it for themselves.

If Hill stays hurt, it's time to think about trying Cedi if you're going to use 10 men. Or Zizic.

The Tristan experiment is over.

Great game by TT even though he only played 7:28 minutes , he clearly was the difference maker with a +7 +/-. With that said, I’m awarding him the bench bunch game ball.

I dislike TTs play as much as anyone on here but he did give a couple minutes of good hustle play. I felt like the problem was Lue played him too long. One 4-5 minute stint in each half so he can go all out would have been fine instead of the 7.5 minutes he got. On offense let him rebound and tip backs. Drill in to him to always pass the ball. When he tries to score it's like he is moving in slow motion and everyone can predict exactly what he is going to do.

A clear example of how misleading +/- can be.

Pacers loved it when he was in, TT setting screens is a negative, they trapped the ball handler and sagged off to cover shooters. Love, Nance, LBJ and Green, that should be our big rotation until Lue wakes up and gives Zicic some minutes.

+1 +/- per minute is difficult to ignore and shuffle under the rug claiming it’s a misleading stat.

Zizic can provide those same hustle plays while actually being able to score in a variety of different ways. I don't know why anyone would want Tristan in except for some silly hope that he will be able to turn back the clock to 2016.

Expecting Zizic not to commit several rookie mistakes is a bigger gamble than playing the highly experienced TX2. With that said , I’ve never seen a fan base so enamored with the 12 th man on the bench. Says a lot regarding Altman’s poor job of constructing balanced playoff team.

expect to see more Tristan Thompson, he was playing with speed and athleticism

Yet according to the comments... Thompson couldn't screen yet he had 3 screen assist leading both teams. 3 screen assist in 14 possessions plus an assist out of his 7 passes.. resulting in his lineup shooting 50% from the field.

These were solid minutes by Tristan Thompson.

He sped up the game. put pressure on Indiana and made it easier for the offense to produce.

Just glad Lue pulled him after Oladipo's block.

Tristan has collapsed as a player. A great way to see this is to look at his RPM's over the last 3 years. Greater positive number is better. Here is that data and his ranking among centers in that time:

2015-16 -----------> +1.37 (24/60) ---------> 24th-best RPM out of 60 centers
2016-17 -----------> +0.00 (38/71)
2017-18 -----------> -4.13 (81/83)

Tristan has tanked out. It seems like the decline is physical after the calf injury. Tristan said himself he's not sure he'll ever be the same player after the injury.

So, right now you have a guy with limited skill who is undersized. Someone who survived on athleticism and hustle, and who seems to have mostly lost both of those qualities. At least the athleticism, anyways.

Tristan used to be a real asset. He was. Unfortunately, that no longer seems to be the case. He ruins our spacing on offense, can't handle the ball (as Green can) and has no legitimate offensive ability. And he's undersized. He can still get some rebounds and can hustle at certain moments. But the damage he does on offense (unless he is gathering offensive rebounds) just seems to outweigh anything he may bring in terms of rebounding, defense and hustle.
