Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I could perhaps buy that (well, not really, but I'll go with that for now) if the coach reverted to sketchy veterans only in the playoffs, because that's where the "big moments" are. Pressure is on, it's a big stage, so you revert to your veterans. Even the crappy ones. Okay, fine.

But in the Cavs regular season, where the games supposedly don't matter and you're not actually competing for a championship, he preferred to give all those minutes to slacking veterans anyway. When there was no pressure at all, and his veterans didn't need those minutes to get ready for the playoffs. And that includes Jeff Green, who wasn't someone who had proven himself a reliable vet in the playoffs.

The most logical explanation for that is that he gave the minutes to those veterans simply because they wanted to play, even in the games that really didn't matter very much.

Someone in the Zizic thread posted the fan appreciation night game. I forgot about it, but it was fun and Cedi was really good. I thought, "No way he doesn't play this kid after this.", but he didn't. I am really scared of this development year because you just don't get another chance.

I appreciate the conversation here but it seems like many of you have forgotten that Tristan PUNCHED Draymond Green. Unless Miami is offering 3 future 1st’s along with Whiteside for TT, then no deal.

Can't TT punch Draymond while wearing a Heat uniform? Win-win!

Question is who would you want more- TT or Whiteside? Both have two years left on their deals.
Don’t think it moves the needle much, but ties up salary next summer. Who’s a FA in 2020?

Whiteside has a player option next season.

The reason he is complaining for touches is he is wanting a max contract.

on some other post TT was called a LeBron dependant player.

TT was a double double guy before LeBron. has worked on his floater and previous role was to pass the ball unless he had an open shot to the rim.

TT is also a far superior roll man when he gets the oppurtunities.

TT had one bad regular season that was injury riddled and is a proven playoff performer. the kind of guy you want on your roster if a lebronless cavs team makes it to the playoffs.

That isn't a downslope and its not typical performance of a guy who has shown he can play with every type of center in the league and does quite well guarding 4's as well.

Playing with LeBron means you could have part of your role absorbed by LeBron at any given moment. for a quarter or for the rest of the season. this isnt a knock on the player. Lebron is simply better than everyone at any position and can handle any role on the court at a high level.

personally I am looking forward to Thompson and Love being able to function in the frontcourt without ending up in each others ways to make room for lebrons spots.

How you guys could watch Tristan shut down al Horford and knock the pacers on their ass and say that's a guy on the decline I have no idea.

lol, he didn't shut down Horford. Give me a break. How many times did guys get easy Rim attacks and TT just whiff? Plenty. TT had 2 good games the entire playoffs. 5 real bad ones. Yet, you ignore that.

I guess I have no evidence to base this on, but I would imagine Lue will be coaching far differently now that the team won't be competing for championships.

When you're trying to win a championship, you're natural inclination is going to be to stick with what you know, particularly when those players came through in big moments. And that faith was largely rewarded in TT, to be fair.

We'll see, I guess.
I get there are TT detractors, but to disagree with this post is a puzzle to me. There was a lot of angst around playing TT minutes at the end of the season, saying he did not deserve it, but in the playoffs TT performed well, and that's just the truth.

As far as TT being a lebron dependent player, there is a certain truth to that because TT has minimal offensive skills. He scores on cleanups and assists from Lebron in triple coverage mostly. But this would be true regardless of where he plays.. it's more that TT is a better fit when coupled to a lebron or Harden, or Durant type player.. he is very durable, ok banging inside, and does not need to be a spotlight player..

Without Lebron, he is a problem. This is why I think Whitesides might be a better fit. Even if he is a one year rental, TT is an expiring. I think the odds of a productive trade using Whitesides are better than one using TT..

I believe TT will have a near all star type of year

Perhaps the Cavs would be counting on him opting OUT- thus creating MORE cap room for next offseason.
That would be a savy move for the FO.

I just hope TT keeps his mouth shut, comes to camp in shape and doesn't cause issues if he has to come off the bench. I'd much rather see the frontcourt minutes go to Love, Nance and even Zizic tbh.

As for Whiteside the Heat were a better team last season when he was on the bench. Personally I pass on a guy like him who could come in and cause unnecessary drama.

Do you think TT is actually a distraction in the locker room? Sounded like he was good and behaved himself once benched. He gave Larry a lot of mentoring. I dunno.

It's really hard to watch a guy that was the team's motor fall off like he has. Feels like when AV couldn't stay healthy.

Agreed. I dislike the whole Kardashian thing, but TT has never been a negative presence in the locker room.

The thing that pissed me off was the way he let himself get out of shape. He should be at least smart enough to know that his game is entirely dependent on his conditioning.
