Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Just remember, next year he'll be a huge expiring contract that we can hopefully use to eat some bad salary and get a nice draft pick in exchange. Just get through this season, folks. Lol.

Tristan, if your knee is acting up feel free to take as much time as you need. (hint, hint)

This 14 sec shot clock after an Oreb is really going to fuck up Tristan's impact as well. Since he can't usually rise up and score after an oreb and it doesn't seem like we have anything ready to run in 14 sec(and really 14 sec just runs out in a hurry...should have been 16-18 sec IMO), it makes the offensive possession far less efficient -- especially so when we don't have good 3pt shooters on the floor to kick out to.

I actually think a playoff team will make a move on him at the coming deadline. There are plenty of teams starting garbage front court players (let alone what's coming off the bench) that will talk themselves into TT being a contributor in their rotation. Injuries also haven't hit anyone yet.

For crying out loud, the Rockets started James Ennis last night in their home opener.

James Ennis is decent. He is a slightly positive player.

But based on what? He's never played major minutes, let alone played major minutes on a championship team.

I know there are metrics that shed some positive light on him, but the same is true of Jae Crowder.

My point is that if championship level teams are starting players of Ennis' caliber, I'm willing to bet someone will be looking to bring on TT by the trade deadline to play in their rotation. Teams seem unusually thin this season.

If the Cavs maintain the uptempo pace in fact increasing it,sustaining it on both sides of the ball it benefits TT and Nance significantly because they will constantly be moving.
There are few teams in the league that have the personnel in the front court without going small to play at the tempo the Cavs are looking to play at.
But with that said, if the Cavs can move Thompson's contract Nance would have to have already proven better consistently and Zizic would have to have proved himself capable of running with this offense(doubtful)

I'm not a big fan of it in a vacuum and it's just one game but my goodness he has a 1.6 PER rating which is laughable considering this is his 8th year in league, salary, etc. He doesn't deserve any minutes ahead of Nance, Zizic or even *gasp* Dekker. He adds literally nothing at this point. Frankly I'd just send him home..seriously. Either he takes a huge buyout/stretch or he can just sit home. So sick of this cat. With the rising cap not even sure he would have value as an expiring next summer.
Other than him I can live with the rest of this roster including even JR... others such as Hood, Clarkson, Decker are limited and need to be eventually replaced but at least they're out there trying..
I was never a huge TT fan but he he did bring his lunch pail back a few years ago which is apparently broke at this point..
There has to be a project big man/rim protector out there somewhere they can try to develop ahead of this guy.

I'd still take TT any day over Dekker. But that's about it.

Versatile wings are a much more of a commodity. You can't have enough two way wings that can play 2-4.

TT is a 1 positional player. And i'd argue that any playoffs team has a better starting C and a better bench C. So why would they even think about acquiring TT?

The only reason to acquire TT is next season once he becomes an expiring. Until then, I don't see why any team would be interested in him.

There are very few teams who would be willing to mess with cap space/flexibility this summer for TT.

It’d have to be a team, with zero chance of having anywhere near cap space.

I think what’s more likely is AFTER FA 2019 shakes down and all the money has been spent on the good players, at that point you will have more teams that either look at TT as a big expiring for 2020 or as an experienced interior player who might give them some value if they have skilled big men already but lack rebounding.

Speaking from the perspective of a GM with a hole in his front court (or looking for an insurance policy, a guy to eat minutes, etc.)- I can envision someone talking themselves into thinking TT is a high energy, defensively versatile big man who will garner extra offensive possessions in the postseason when they matter most.

These are the same teams that generally value guys who don't need the ball to fulfill their role - something TT has historically been.

A GM could very easily talk themselves into getting the TT of 2016, the TT who has been a part of dismantling Toronto the past 3 years, and the TT who has historically played Al Horford as well as anyone.

Now, I want to make it clear that I'm not saying a GM making a move for TT would be a good move per se, but I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility at all.

He would be a bad GM lol :)

But really, i'm trying to think which team needs a player like TT. Are we talking about playoffs team only?

The only scenario I can see us being able to get rid of TT this year is if a contender has a center get a career or near career ending injury on the last year of their deal and they have expirings or an expendable useful player plus expirings to match TT's contract. I don't see a team really be willing to give up assets for TT.

I think Triston deserves more respect. His contract is terrible from a roster building standpoint, not his fault. He may get more playing time than is necessary, not his fault.

He leaves it all on the court and gets the most from his limited skill-set. He was instrumental in our finals win.

Yeah, there are a lot of bad GMs, and there are even more GMs who make bad moves for whatever reason.

Teams in the playoffs and/or teams looking to make the playoffs. Here's a few potential possibilities off the top of my head:

Clippers
Rockets (as a minutes eater more than anything)
OKC
Memphis
Philly
Washington
Indiana

All of those teams are one key injury away from having interest in TT. I'm sure there are more.

Now, I understand YOU has the GM would disagree. I think past moves that are made annually by teams looking to fill holes demonstrate the possibility.

I don't know the cap situations of a lot of those teams, but I don't see any of the above teams, save the Clippers, having max space available this summer AND being able to make use of it to bring in a max player.
