Tyronn Lue has been fired

How can coach Popovich make a team with the corpses of Gasol,Parker,Manu,Lee and Aldridges slow ass the best defensive team in the league and our coaching staff can't make us look at least respectable in the regular season? before you say Kawhi, they're actually better defensively with Kawhi off the floor.

I mean what are they doing in practice? I don't even recall a single player standing with both hands straight up under the basket using the rule of vertically to bother opposing players, shit I saw Delly doing that last year more than the entire team this season, why aren't they teaching our players the fundamentals of defense? too many players out of position looking like headless chicken out there this year.

Maybe this is all a part of some crazy plan we don't know about to confuse our future playoff opponents lol, like I know its the regular season but being ranked 22nd in defense is just embarrassing, injuries or not.

Because we have a bunch of yes men with no fucking clue coaching our team.

When you compare the cavs to previous NBA champions we are the worst on defense. I don't know if it's a fact but it just feels like our opponent will score every possession.

This is basic rebounding stuff that every player knows. If you think your gonna have tired legs on the perimeter then you make adjustments. you put fresh legs on the weakside and make sure your players finish the play.
Houston had 9 offensive rebounds by guards.
Shump and Deron did a good job snagging rebounds with 5 a piece but you didn't have that when they were sitting.
Otherwise Tristan didn't get any help after the shot on the weakside positionally.

There should of been an adjustment in the 2nd half.

If your man is away from the basket on the perimeter
, do NOT use the standard boxing-out techniques described above... the offensive player will often get around you, or you may get a foul. Instead, find your man and "check" him by making contact with him with your forearm.

If he tries to get around you, "arc" him outside, and then aggressively pursue the ball. If your man is stronger and pushes or forces you inside the war zone, then use the standard block-out technique used in the war zone. If your man releases away from the basket to half-court as a "safety", go to the closest elbow and rebound from there. Often the 3-point shot results in a long rebound to either elbow.

Attack The Ball!
After you have sealed (boxed-out) the opponent, then go aggressively after the ball. Attack the ball, jumping high with both arms extended, grab it strongly with both hands, and "rip it down".

Expect some physical contact. You’ve got to be strong and tough inside. Once you have the ball, protect it by pivoting away from the opponents, and "chin" it, by bringing the ball under your chin with elbows out. But you must not throw an elbow... a sure foul, often flagrant.

Team Rebounding Concepts

The rebounding triangle
With each shot, try to establish a triangle of players boxing out around the basket. Have one player on each side of the hoop and one in front, so that you have a triangle of players boxing out around the hoop. Don't get too far under the basket, where a taller player can simply reach over your head for the rebound...box them away from the basket.

Weakside rebounding
Another tip… realize that about 70% of missed shots from the corner or wing go long to the opposite side of the hoop. So make sure you have a weakside rebounder when the corner-wing shot goes up.

Long rebounds
Especially against teams that like to shoot the three-pointer (which when missed often results in a "long rebound"), whenever possible try to have two perimeter defenders (rebounders) get to the wing-elbow areas on each side to help pick off those long rebounds that go beyond the guys boxing out down low.

Lue is damn lucky he got into lebrons inner circle because there's absolutely nothing redeemable about his coaching. But lucky for him lebron will make him look like a genius in the playoffs.

Here’s the thing. We don’t have to have an elite defense to win a championship, as long as our offense continues to be historically good.

However, the defense DOES need to not be awful for us to be a championship contender. We need to improve to a middle of the road team on that end, at minimum, and that’s something we’re struggling to do.

Do you think you could get somebody to print and post this on the Cavs bulletin board?

Of course with this being the NBA, you'd think every player in the league already knows this stuff?

Sanders can't hurt. K-Love is one of the best in the league at fundamentals of rebounding and boxing out, even when he doesn't grab the rebound he often boxes out well enough to help his team mates get it.

Of course everyone blames Lue for the lack of execution and effort towards team rebounding. But the simple fact is, Houston was fresher and they wanted the ball more. Our guys were weak in getting position and slow to the ball. Blaming Lue is lazy and low hanging fruit for people who already hate him.

When a team essentially doubles up on your primary rebounder every time the ball goes up in there you need to adjust for that when its clearly working against you.

perhaps a more energetic Thompson gets those rebounds. but if he isn't then you need another rebounder out there besides LeBron.

big difference when Thompson was off the court was that Fry got help either from Shump or Deron Williams.

fatigue might cause you to get beat on the boards but you shouldn't get dominated like Houston did.

I think the biggest issue with Love being out and Tristan having to be our main focus on the defensive end and constantly switching onto guards pulls him away from the basket. STOP FUCKING SWITCHING ON DEFENSE EVERY POSSESSION...

When are we going to start JR instead of Shump? Shump should get used to coming off the bench again, and JR used to starting again... JR is generally much more consistent than Shump also.

We got Deron Williams to be a playmaker for the second unit, and tonight we used him to stand in the corner. Not sure what the deal is with that, but when he's in the game, he should generally have the ball in his hands and looking to set someone up for an easy shot. Deron is not going to make a positive impact by standing in the corner.

Was Derrick Williams out because of his quad again? Would rather have him out there standing in the corner than Deron.

Lue has already said that JR will be starting once Love is off of his minutes restriction. That gives JR enough time to get back up to speed.

Just hope that at this late in the season we have time to get integrated and everyone comfortable with their roles. I guess the first two rounds of the playoffs can also be counted as games available to get things dialed in. We've wasted these last two games with resting and then messing around for 80% of the game tonight.
