USA vs Belgium

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I've just recently gotten into soccer in a big way and went with 4 friends. Absolutely awesome experience, for those that say it's too boring. I counter with....baseball.

I thought it was boring too but realized the amount of skill, balance, finesse, power, all the attributes blended are necessary in order to be any good at this game. Goals can come at any given second, my two buddies each left once to go to the bathroom and they both missed a goal. Belgium is a damn good team and I was really encouraged by the first half we seemed to control possession and their goal was more of a lapse on our defenders not clearing rather than them doing anything special. My friends and I had the same argument as to why we aren't as good as other countries despite being powerhouses in basketball, having the football player etc. I agree it's the level of competition and financially accepting that the best are playing in other countries and that's where we need to go in order to raise the level of play for our citizens and youth.

I'm so pissed I had a perfect picture of Kompany and my finger blocked the picture at the last second. That guy is a fucking monster! My friends and I have all been drawn in by World Cups, 3 of my friends in 06, myself in 2010 South Africa and we're actually planning to go to Brazil next year for a week and catch a game or two. Here's pics of my friends and I tailgating.

Whichever guy looks the gayest in those pics is cdt. I can vouch because he sends me gay snapchats of himself all the time, usually singing.

Are there trees near the stadium, or are you guys tailgating in some random lot in Lakewood?

So, the guy flexing his lats in the second pic and flaunting the Express undies in the first? :chuckles: I kid, I kid.

Looks like the Muni lot to me... Or the Coast Guard/Burke lot.

It was the muni lot assholes :chuckles:

Jigs that's harsh coming from the guy that sent me a 27 minute video if you shaving your chest with a single blade razor with "Time After Time" looping in the background.

Let's give Belgium some serious credit, their roster is loaded with young talent.

-Benteke- 6'3 and only 22 years old. 4th in the BPL in scoring only behind Van Persie, Suarez, and Bale. He's the one who netted 2 goals on us.

-Lukaku- 6'3 and only 20 years old. 6th in the BPL in scoring. He was the other massive forward with the dreads.

-Hazard- only 22 years old and starts for Chelsea. Named to BPL's Best XI this year. Didn't even played against USA. Probably the best player on the roster

-Amazing defensive trio of Kompany (27- captain for Manchester City), Vertonghen (26- BPL Best XI defender), and Vermaelen (27-starter for Arsenal)

-2 very good young goalies. Mignolet (25-rated as a top 5 GK in BPL) and Courtois (21- playing at Atletico Madrid but future GK for Chelsea as soon as Cech is done). Courtois wasn't in Cleveland

-3 very solid midfielders. Fellaini (25- Everton's best player), Dembele (25- very important player for Spurs) and Witsel (24-sold for 40m Euros last summer for Zenit in Russia). Witsel wasn't at the game either

-Some other youngsters too- Mirallas (25- important player for Everton) and De Bruyne (21 year old Chelsea loanee- he was the blonde kid who was ripping us to shreds)

Big futbol fan here too. I've been trying to get people to go to next years world cup in Brazil, tickets will be released in the later part of this year after the field is set, and from what i hear, it's a tough process to get tickets. Also, it's best to go through a travel agency that can get you tickets, because planning your own trip down there is impossible. Just give yourself plenty of time.

What will it take for me to convince everyone in here to stop following soccer?

Never.

It's my one of my fav sports and I enjoy watching it just as much as the NFL. I laugh at the boring comments when people here say baseball is America's past time and probably the worst sport in mankind to watch next to the WNBA. And those same people love to watch golf for 6 hours.

Im not knocking those sports, I am going to the Indians game tonight. But to say soccer is boring is just laughable. It's the only sport with constant movement and zero breaks. How fans love a pitching duel, but slam soccer for low scoring is comical.

I am getting tickets to see Chelsea v Inter Milan in Indy. Can't wait.

Won't be able to watch the game unfortunately, got an exam tomorrow and gotta get some sleep...
If you like other sports you should check out the game, our Red Devils are a pretty exciting young team and if USA doesn't bring it we might very well kick your butts :)
Sincerely,
Cavs fan from Brussels

Never thought I was going to meet a fellow Cavs from Belgium.
iLLGiLL, since when are you a Cavs fan?
I became interested in the NBA in 1997-1998.
I decided to root for the Cavs after reading somewhere that the Cavs were the least popular team in the league (I've Always like the underdog, typical Belgian I guess).

I'm also a big soccer fan, and I'm very excited about our future. Very very talented Belgian squad, altough they have everything to proof. I hope we qualify for Brazil in 2014, because 2000 was the last year we participated in a big soccer tournament. It won't be easy though, since we still have to play Croatia in Zagreb.

Btw, I live in Mechelen, some 12 miles above Brussels.
iLLGiLL, I guess you're Flemish as well?

I became a Cavs fan when I went to Pennsylvania for a year as an exchange student. It was back in 2006, and Cleveland was an exciting up and coming team with LBJ of course. I was disgusted by the way he left the team and kept following the Cavs as much as I could.

I also like to root for the underdog team, definitely a Belgian thing. It's great to see how committed the organization is to the rebuild, they're really being patient and doing it the right way. But people are gonna have to take the Red Devils AND the Cavs very seriously! Future is so bright for both of those teams, can't wait to see the Belgians in Brazil (even though, like you said, Croatia is no joke) and the Cavs back in the playoffs!

(I currently study in Brussels but I'm francophone, from Louvain-la-Neuve actually :) And we're not the only ones, we sometimes go see the Sunday afternoon Cavs games in a bar Place du Luxembourg with some friends)

Lose 4-2 to Belgium, beat Germany 4-3.

This team is hard to figure under Klinsmenn. They've had some of their most impressive wins, and then they follow it up with questionable losses. Beat teams like Italy, Germany, in Estadio Del Azteca against Mexico, and then lose to teams like Belgium.

"Teams like Belgium"?

If you were to replace that with Jamaica or another CONCACAFteam, that may be a plausible statement. Losing to a far superior team should never be surprising. Especially a team like Belgium that we match up horribly with.
