Week 1 2018 |Browns vs. Steelers

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I dont think people are giving Myles enough credit. He was absolutely dominating a pro bowl level LT. Like he absolutely crushed his soul. Straight Sheng Tsung his soul.

That may be the DPOY if he keeps that up.

100%. Total stud. But he still has to come away from this game with a learning experience... that block in the back on the INT return was fucking stupid and possibly cost the team the win. Starting at the 13 yard line rather than the 25 yard line is a big difference. I had a bad feeling from that moment on after that flag flew.

Our inability to get the ball to any playmaker was wild. You can't get some slants to Gordon and see if he can make something happen?
I'm wondering if he really wasn't 100%...

Or he just is a meh, low impact player... because that's exactly what he is until proven otherwise. He was overhyped and overrated at Michigan too.

He literally gifted us our second touchdown.

He is exactly what he should be. A solid in the box safety and a pretty ok weapon with the ball in his hands.

Of 25 qualified players, he was tied for last in 2017 in yards per punt return at 6 yards (first was 15.4 yards per return). He has shown absolutely nothing in the return game. That really should be Callaway's job, unless he is struggling catching the ball.

Jabrill Peppers is basically the black Jim Leonard, as he showed today on his fair catch with nobody within 15-20 yards of him.

I get the disappointment but not the Taylor hate...I mean, he was sacked 7 times and was being pressured all the time in a downpour. I'm not saying he was great by any means, but where's the hate for the O Line? They were terrible. Not impressed by Haley's playcalling at all. The running game was underutilized. In OT, we have a 3rd and 1 from our 35/40, and he calls that screen over the middle. Just get the first down. Taylor played pretty much like I expected under the conditions. He's a C+/B- QB. You knew what this was.

The bright spot is the defense, obviously, but the run defense was terrible today, too. How could they be that unprepared knowing it'd be Conner and knowing what the weather would be like. It's clear to me that whatever the defense achieves this season is going to have nothing to do with the coaches.
My assumption is there were throws that could be made by someone with a better arm and bigger hands. And Tyrod's reluctance to make those throws led to some of the sacks. Maybe this isn't the case?

He didn't play behind a great offensive line in Buffalo, but there's a reason why Tyrod Taylor has been sacked 95 times in his last 31 games (the most in the NFL by a wide margin).

He holds onto the ball as long as any QB in the NFL.

Sometimes that's a good thing. See his 8 carries for 77 yards rushing today, all but one of them on scrambles if I remember correctly. But often times it's a bad thing. See him eating 7 sacks.

The problem really is WHY he holds onto the ball for so long. Unfortunately, and it showed up in a BIG way today, Taylor is a guy who needs to see his guys come open before he's comfortable pulling the trigger on the throw.

He's always going to be a guy who struggles against tight man to man coverage. He's just not comfortable fitting balls into windows or throwing guys open with anticipation.

He's going to be near the league lead in sacks taken this year regardless of how well the Browns OL plays IMO.

The Bills' OL wasn't "not great," it was bad, like ours. Maybe it's that I think a lot of people on this board--as I've been lurking over the past couple months--have overestimated our line. On paper it should be better than it is, which is why Harrison is starting. I know he's got a lot of upside, but still.

I get what you're saying, the stats are the stats. And like I said, he's a B-/C+ QB in my book. But I just don't see the point in laying everything at the guy's feet. I didn't see our WRs getting open very well and the pocket was always collapsing. The weather was shit, receivers and Njoku had bad drops. I didn't get the playcalling, especially in the first half. I don't see Mayfield doing any better in that situation.

Lots of negative vibes. The game was winnable, but we were unable to grasp the ring. Still odds are better Browns improve through the season more than the Steelers do..

I will take this as progress.

In some cases, yeah, totally. But there were a lot of plays where no one was open.

Mainly I'm reacting to the pitchforks-and-torches crowd who're acting like he was terrible.

He was 15/40 passing lmao.

Even if you throw out the spikes to stop the clock and drops and he was still under 50% passing.

He had a terrible game. One of the worst games of his career frankly.

If Avery doesn't run ahead pre-celebrating and actually blocks #53, Miles never has a chance to block him in the back. Schobert has a good chance to take that to the house and end the game.

After a few hours settling in, anybody else proud of their football team today?
It's annoying because we had opportunities to win, but overall I'm content with it. I mean shit we were down 14 with like 8 minutes left. The Browns lose that game 100% of the time. Not only that, but guys made plays. Denzel is legit. Myles is an MVP level player. Landry is legit. Gordon made a big play when he was actually given a chance. Overall, the defense is amazing and the offense is a work in progress (weather didn't help)...those are my takeaways.
